    Keeping the USB cable in?
    Nice to save.

no, I thought you'd pulled that out long ago.

Could you confirm exactly how you have wired it, it should be in a chain cable modem -- router -- pc, and the --- is two bit's of ethernet cat5/6 cable, and no usb cable should be involved at all.

why have you got two ethernet adapters listed in the ipconfig?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

well, keeping the USB in, basically everything came up with 0.0.0.0

then for the renew bit :
" Ethernet Adaptor Local Area Connection :
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
    IP address ....... : 192.168.0.153
    Subnet Mask ..........: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway ......: 192.168.0.1

Ethernet Adaptor Local Area Connection 2
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
    IP address ....... : 80.7.145.237
    Subnet Mask ..........: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway ......: 80.7.144.1 "

    And with it out:
the first ones the same, then for the renew part :
" Ethernet Adaptor Local Area Connection
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
    IP address ....... : 192.168.0.153
    Subnet Mask ..........: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway ......: 192.168.0.1 "

If i pull the USB cable out we don't get any internet access at all?

    I have wired it :
Computer - Lan port(1-4) in the router using an Ethernet Cable
NTL Cable Modem - WAN port using another Ethernet Cable,
    Both are straight-through cables.

*why have you got two ethernet adapters listed in the ipconfig?*
i have absolutely no idea! Could it be because we used to have dial-up?
    Nice to save.

could you clarify where the usb lead is going from and to?

This bit is good.. what I would expect.

" Ethernet Adaptor Local Area Connection :
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
    IP address ....... : 192.168.0.153
    Subnet Mask ..........: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway ......: 192.168.0.1

This bit is weird, it is a direct connection to the internet, bypassing the dhcp system in the router, is this related to your usb connection?

Ethernet Adaptor Local Area Connection 2
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
    IP address ....... : 80.7.145.237
    Subnet Mask ..........: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway ......: 80.7.144.1 "

oo and in the modem and the router there are leads going to the power supply, and then in the modem the USB cable is going to the back of the computer?

Im not really sure whether it's related or not? what should i be expecting to see?

I've read that 1st para several times, and can't understand it.. oo?

So you have a usb cable connected to a cable modem, connected to NTL cable? and if you pull that usb cable out, your internet stops working, and the ipconfig loses the 80.7.x.x ethernet 2 connection section, but keeps the 192.168. bit... and at that point if you put http://192.168.0.1 into ie, it crashes IE?

if that is the case, try firefox.

what you are aiming for is..

    ditch the usb lead.

wire cable modem to router to PC with ethernet cables.

ipconfig should show a 192.168.x.x address only, and the ethernet 2 bit should be gone.

    http://192.168.0.1 should work in IE/firefox.

ok, firstly ignore the oo bit - just my way of typing.

Im a bit confused about the first part of your 2nd section. We have a modem connected to the computer via a USB cable, and a white cable (quite possibly the NTL cable?)

    what is firefox?

The usb lead needs to go, if it is going between the PC and the cable modem (you are on cable aren't you?), then it is bypassing the router completely and confusing the issue.

if you have two PC's/laptops, try plugging the laptop directly into the router with ethernet cable to get on the net and one here, and work on the PC - router - http://192.168.0.1 problem at the same time

The usb lead shouldn't be needed, the sooner you get rid of it, the nearer you will get to solving the problem.

dont suppose you have tried my first suggestion then and removing ALL cables and staring all over again?

Try this, unplug all the cables and using the ethernet cable, plug this directly into the ntl modem and into your pc...nothing else and definitely no usb cable.then take the power lead from the back of the ntl modem, wait for a minute and plug it back in.... then just try to access the net.....
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
