    hey, Thanks for helping me with this .... do i need the USB cable still in while the ethernet is connected from the PC to the modem? Because that wont work at the moment

    No I would try to set it up just using the Ethernet cable. Until your LAN port is working correctly, you won't be able to configure your router.

    Not necessarily a problem, it may just need configuring as I said above. Have you looked at the network cards TCP/IP settings?

    I took a look, however there is two options the "local area connection" which has a "network cable unplugged" or "local area connection 2" which is "connected"
    Both obtain the DNS and IP address automatically?

    control panel.network connections, double click on local area connection then click on the properties tab make sure that internet protocol is ticked, highlight it and select properties and make sure obtain an ip address autimatically is ticked

    Yep, that is ticked, however i still cannot acces http://192.168.0.1

    say?

    As a stab in the dark, try running https://www.ccleaner.com

    if that doesn't work.. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

    Subnet Mask ..........: 255.255.252.0
    Default Gateway ......: 80.7.144.1 "

    what do you get when you wire it up like..

    PC
    Router ---- Cable modem
    ---ethernet cable
    ethernet cable

    and do a start, run, cmd

    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew

    then redo the ipconfig and repost
