EAT FRUIT don't drink fruit juice!! (adults too!). You are encouraging the body (actually brain) to crave sugar. Also don't eat too many apples and oranges. Much better for us to eat plums, raspberries, apricots, grapes which release their energy to the body in a more controlled way. While I'm at it...throw out all your breakfast cereals except things like pure oats or shredded wheat. Look at the ingredients!... dextrose and barley malt extract (to name but 2) are sugar by another name as far as your brain is concerned.0

So the oats so simple and corn flakes how about them?? I know oats so simple do have other stuff in them but are they really so bad.? My fav are the frosted wheats I expect they are terrible too??? How about rice krispies??0

I don't know the ingredients of Oatso simple but it is a 'refined' product so your body easily gobbles up its energy quickly without having to work hard to break it down. Frosties, cornflakes and rice krispies?...just look at the ingredients. Ask yourself why your hand naturally moves towards these cereals at the supermarket instead of, say, shredded wheat. Its cos your brain likes em not cos your body needs em.
Anyway I've got to go to some Russian New Year event just now that I suspect might last all day but I'm def gonna check out this thread later its a good one.0 -
i read somewhere that the oats-so-simple is a refined carb so it's a quick release burst of sugar instead of slow steady release over a period of time. therefore you would feel hungry an hour after eating it, when the sugar slump happens. that means kids not concentrating in school.
but no doubt it's better than chocolate coated straws.'bad mothers club' member 13

I think it's sad that we all feel the need to fill our little ones up on junk. My daughter is nearly 2 1/2 and she only drinks water except after meals when she's allowed a drink of milk. She doesn't complain even when we go to toddler group and everyone else is sitting around drinking juice and biscuits. I take her the organix goodie bars which I know have natural sugars in them but no refined sugars or nasty additives. I don't want to make my DD feel the odd one out but at the moment she doesn't seem to mind that she's getting something different.
Mind you she only has porridge, shredded wheat or no added sugar museli for breakfast too. It really isn't that difficult to feed your LOs a half decent diet.0 -

Oh - and I find the worst culprits for feeding kids junk food is their grannies!!
My mother is of the 'it won't hurt to let him have a taste' opinion....sheesh.
It took me years to stop MIL offering my eldest fizzy juice  As for trying to give them sweets and chocolate - my God!! My little one was only 6 months old and she was buying him white chocolate buttons. (OH ate them lol)
Yet...I am accused by her of depriving them and 'mollycoddling' them!! And not even to my face, I overheard her saying it o my OH....give him his due he told her straight that it was OUR decision and if she had a problem with it we wouldn't be back :TCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I would agree with that.
I sometimes ask grandparents to be brought along with the kids to actually show them what the 'harmless' things are doing! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
i find that going to the grandparents for an entire day rather than just an hour or two works best - let them actually SEE how out of control and upset your kids gets when artifical colours poison their little bodies. let them watch the come-down when they are exhausted and can't cope. let them realise that it's not just a bit of a treat - the damage that it does lasts until after bedtime and ruins the next day too and the emotional upset it causes the child is not balanced out by a smile when they are first given the junk.
