I was advised by my dentist yesterday to drink fresh orange juice or any other juice through a straw as it has less contact with your teeth. Also don't brush teeth for 4 hours after drinking any juice. I have been using a juicer for 12 months and didn't realise what harm the juice was doing to my teeth.

  • we went to harvester ages ago and they had stoppe serving fruit shoots because they were full of e numbers apparently.

Have you ever read what's in fruit shoots??? There's all kinds of nasties in the,.. even in the water ones! Fruit Shoots contain Aspartame which is a known Carcinogenic! Not nice!

when we go to the brewsters playbarn my toddler is envious of the fruit shoots the other kids drink but he thinks it's a real treat to have a grown-up drink in a glass with a straw, so we get a glass of tapwater from the bar (and it's free :rotfl:). it's iced too, my kids both get excited by ice cubes, they must lead a deprived life! his face lights up at the sight of a glass of iced water, bless him! but orange juice, how bad is it? he drinks it if he has a sip from one of ours. and we have been known to buy tropicana go, but that's more pear than orange and is just juice and water, so it's incredibly lazy of me!

For goodness sake!! If children drink only orange juice, then this may cause tooth decay, but having the odd drink of it is not going to cause harm at all. Neither is drinking anything else!!! Moderation for everything is the answer and as long as you follow dentists' guidelines then there shouldn't be any problems. My children have always had orange juice, lemonade, squash (sugar free though lol) and milk and have beautiful teeth.

My DS1 (7) only drinks water or milk. Although he would love to have fizzy juice, if a relative offers it when visiting, he politely says that he's not allowed it and could he have water please? I get some funny looks:rotfl:

DS2 (1) has milk mostly, and occasionally a small amount of watery fresh orange if he is a bit 'bunged up'. He hates water though and will go without rather than drink it.

A small piece of cheese as a snack after watered down fruit juice will help to neutralise the acid.

isnt sugar free worse than sugared stuff ? as it contains artificial sweetners and other nastiness

i read that the ocean spray cranberry cordial was the "best" to give

Everything is fine in moderation - if we sat and analysed everything that we ate or drank, we would die of starvation.
