  • ExOH has been and gone and thankfully it was all very amicable and simple. He's agreed to divorce and will accept reponsibility for the breakdown of the marriage - we don't have kids or any disputes over finances so we've decided not to involve solicitors and do it ourselves to make it quicker and cheaper. He's even agreed to pay half - wasn't expecting that.
Not sure how I feel really - relieved that the difficult conversation is over and resolved but sad at what its all come to:(

Life goes on though - I refuse to let it get me down.

Off to my friends on Saturday - forgot all about it until she texted this morning. So that's something to look forward to.....

Am 'celebrating' my divorce talks with a glass of wine, big bag of crisps and the soaps - how exciting is my life!!

Hi WW - don't know you well enough to hug you but if I did....

Hope that you're as OK as you can be in a situation like this. Glad exOH has agreed to pay half and settle things as amicably as possible... How long have you been married? Do you both work? Do you have any rights to some of his pension (if you don't work?)

  • Hi Saving ..
We both work, have been married for 2 years but were together for a few years before that and the house is mine - I'd bought it a long time before we got together and he just effectively paid half the mortgage for the time he lived here. Thankfully he's being very fair and doesn't want anything financially as neither do I - we've just decided to go our separate ways with what we brought into the marriage - he has considerable savings that he's using to pay for a deposit on a house. So its back to square one for both of us...
Financially I can manage alone (just!) and now have no debt so its just a case of budgeting each month and not living above my means and saving what I can.

Anyway, I have quite a lot to do today so thought I'd write a list to help me remember what needs doing...
    • Walk dog
    • Post amazon book
    • Post ebay sale if payment clears
    • Pick up library book and take others back
    • Pop into the bank to close an account
    • Do the grocery shopping
    • Clean the house (hoover and dust)
    • Clean the wood floors
    • Change the bed
    • Wash the bedding and towels
    • Look at budget for the month
    • Do some school work (maybe 1-2 hrs)
    • Put petrol in
    • Get some cash out for the week
    • Cancel graze box for next week
I'm sure there's more to do but can't think of it right now.
Popping over to my friends late afternoon/early evening (its about 45mins away so will need petrol before) but won't stay overnight, I have things to do tomorrow so want to wake up in my own bed!

Right better get on with the day.....
  • Been and done all of the out and about jobs - shopping, library, post office, petrol, bank etc and just having a sit down before the cleaning onslaught.;)

Managed to stick more or less to the shopping list with a few substitutions for things that were on offer and spent £21.15 in Mr S and £1 on cheap toilet roll so a total of £22.15. Well under budget of £30, pleased with that.:T
I may need a bit of fruit later in the week but will just pop to the greengrocers if I run out.

Need to get on with the cleaning next.......
  • Had a lovely evening catching up with one of my oldest friends and putting the world to rights.
It absolutely tipped down on the way home and was a bit scary driving on an unlit motorway in a monsoon but I went slowly and survived - the good thing was all it cost was the price of the petrol.

Not got a lot planned for today apart from school work for the week, walking the dog and generally relaxing. I need to hoover out the car too if it stays dry.

Had an email from amazon saying that the book that had been sold but not payed for yet can now be dispatched so a bit more for the coffers!:T
Will sit down later and have a bit of a rest and watch a movie from the Sky planner and make a nice tea of chick pea curry. Also aiming for a NSD today so will stay away from the shops!

Sounds like an ok deal then. Glad you've got good friends around you and well done on the grocery budget. Do you fancy posting the recipe for the curry please

  • Saving H - there is no recipe - I used a Sainsbobs sauce and added chickpeas, mushrooms, onions and peppers:rotfl:

Had a really long day at work and am officially knackered - but the good news is that the head was in our dept meeting and for once I said and did the right things - not like me:p

Managed to have another NSD - that's 2 in a row, unheard of!
Took lunch to work and have already made tomorrow's. I haven't missed a day of taking it this term yet - I'm aiming for the whole term so its a good start.

The money from ebay and amazon is starting to trickle into my account too - why does it take so long?

I've also had a quick rejig of the month's budget and after all outgoings and if I pay off the smallish overdraft I have about £200 cash left for the month. The car is almost full of petrol and I have no big plans to go far, I have £20 cash towards next weeks groceries and £17 in my purse to last until the weekend so I should be able to make it stretch if I'm careful. That will mean that next month's pay will be a full amount (no extra deductions this month for strikes etc) and I'll have about £600 left after bills, mortgage etc. Much more comfortable.

There's a walk for life event in the big park near where I live this Sunday and so I'll take the dog for a bit of exercise and fresh air. There's also the dog walking club monthly meet up on Saturday so if its dry we'll be off on that too. Cheap and good for you I suppose.

Am just looking forward to a rest.... and its only Monday!
  • Afternoon!

The dog has developed a poorly paw - one of the pads is red and swollen. I can't see any obvious stones or cuts but he's limping and keeps holding it up for me to look at - bless him. I've bathed it and made an appointment for the vet for tomorrow. They'll probably charge me a fortune the equivalent of dog TCP! Never mind, he's worth it! My little fur baby.:o I've cooked him some cheap offal from the butchers for tea to cheer him up -seems to be working!
I was planning on going on a dog walking club walk on Saturday with him but I think that fallen by the wayside now:(

Had another NSD today and a free lunch at school for doing lunchtime duty so in effect have had something for nothing;)

Most of the ebay and amazon money is now in my savings account so I now have the Xmas fund completed in the bank:T Now to start properly on the living room redecoration fund ..... will take a while!

Did lots of marking last night and have brought some internal exams home to mark tonight - once they're done that's it for exams for a little while. Only 4 weeks to half term! This term seems to be flying by!

Have also written a shopping list for the weekend and a meal plan for next week - I have £20 in cash towards it still in my purse - hopefully it won't be much more than that. Its mostly fresh stuff that's needed and a few toiletries - will try shopping around to get the cheapest things.

Right, I'm off to make some tea....

Hi WW sounds like you are doing amazingly well to me! I like the idea of a redecoration fund... I have bought various paint tubs but unfortunately haven't been well enough to use them... Hopefully that will change soon! I'm getting there
