Yeah. Vet says bacterial, DH says fungal. Either way itchy and scratchy in personal areas. Just been soaped again. He's sulking.

Thanks Greenbee for that advice, but its 5 hours for the heating and 5 hours for the hot water in total over that period so im thinking !!!! at the winter bills. I do work for one of the big 6 suppliers in the call centres so like to think im pretty clued up on the energy efficiency side of things, but thats just :eek::eek::eek: considering i have an electric shower and an electric cooker and hob.

Im getting the boiler serviced next week and will be getting a wall thermostate put in as there are only radiator controls at the moment and i prefer the wall control system where it cuts out when it gets to a certain temperature. we have a gas back boiler in the back of the fire and i think we might be needing a new boiler which is going to have to wait for next year as cant justify that cost at the moment.

Ive changed supplier as well and like to think i know how to get the best deal, but at the moment, it seems like its going to be an expensive winter even with all the winter prep im doing (have curtains for almost all the windows in the house and the loft is fully insulated and we have cavity wall insulation).

I used to work for one of the suppliers too :D

I suggest you have a chat with a few people at work, as they usually have an answer. I'd also do daily meter reads for a bit too, and check the boiler controls.

What else... Erm... Bleed the radiators, balance them and check that the bottoms aren't cold (sludge). And get someone to chuck some inhibitor in the expansion tank next time anyone is in the loft. If there is sludge, you'll need a friend (or to pay for a power flush). I cleared my system of sludge myself once and it took about half a day and was fairly damp!

That reminds me... I have meter readings to do this weekend too. I'm on a BG EnergySmart tariff so have to do them monthly and then I'm billed for what I've used rather than having the complicated averaging DDs...

    Good luck with it...

Mrs Chaos - Lamewolf referred to Terry Pratchett - my user name is from it, as is my DS1s name and one of the dogs. I originally read the Belgariad in my late teens, so mostly nostalgic reading. Only read those and the Mallorean ones at the moment, but sadly buying books is on the not essential lists going forward. Not sure how I will cope with that!

Our fuel bills have shot up, things that have helped, replacing the timer so that it actually comes on when it is supposed to, realising that the immersion was permanently stuck on and disconnecting it altogether, losing the teenager who would spend an hour in the shower every day (helped with the metred water too), replacing some of the sludgier rads - an ongoing project, and just putting the water on for an hour a day rather than three on the basis that we have a DW and I can't actually afford to have a bath and a shower every day any more :o. According to the plug in metter we now use about £1.20 a day, against the £4 it was at its worst.

    Evening all,

Busy couple of days here - berry picking on Wed (have 10 jars of strawberry jam away in the cupboard), catching up with a friend on Thurs and taking DH to his appt and taking the chance to stock up at costco afterwards.

DH needs an op on his back - two weeks today - so has been given more pain releif for the next two weeks, he is sore tonight from spending so long in the car today. I managed to get a lot of tins, rice, bits for the freezer so have a well stocked house for the coming months.

Off to have a catch up on here will be back on in the morning once I have a list for the weekend.

Just wait for winter :p but at least you can control it... (the trip switch for upstairs sockets should cut down on child-related electricity use). Hopefully your new windows will cut the heating costs :D

    Aww, bless; poor little chap.

Ted's been bathed, fed doggy-chocs for the 5 mins we have to leave the shampoo on, shaken himself all over me (thankfully just in my underwear so easy to get dry), been dried, and is now happily munching on a piece of rawhide bone-shaped thingy.:o

Next installment is scheduled for Tuesday evening.:o

He sends Oz his best regards and says "put up with it, mate, you'll feel better in the long run.";)

Sneaks in hoping no one notices.

I'm not doing very well at the moment. Just about managing dailies and taking kids on trips etc. I seem to have run out of steam.

    Tiptoes off again :o
