£5+£35.99+£26 = £66.99 (Buy box separately)
£5+£35.99+£15 = £55.99
or
£8.99+39.99+£0 = £48.98 (free box)
If you buy the box independently of the offer it will cost you £18 more....
but... 1) do you need it? 2) can you afford it 3) is it cheaper than £26 elsewhere?
Certainly is £14.99 (http://www.sewandso.co.uk/Products/DMC-Wooden-Thread-Box-With-30-Stranded-Cottons__DMC-U1658.aspx)
However, still £7 cheaper to go for the box offer.... decisions decisons
I love these boxes and the threads that come with them are all useful colours - reds, creams and beiges. Also don't forget that Sewandso will charge postage so the saving on going for the subs offer is more than £7.
So a saving on the cover price of a magazine you already buy, DMC threads you will use plus a very nice box seems like a good package to me.
But then I can talk myself into buying anything stitchy related if I try hard enough0 -
How lovely! Nice to hear of kids wanting to get involved in what some see as an 'old fashioned' hobby.
Funny you should say that Shelly, DH has nicnamed me granny, as I x stitch, knit and make cards :rotfl:. How rude, my eldest is only 4 (till saurday!) I am a few years off, but getting in some practicelol.
This really isn't getting my stitching done, or any of the bits for DDs party! lol
Ah well.
Me too Flowersofscottland. Think I have justified it to myself toolol.

What price would you put to the two magazines you would get less on the box offer? So there is not that much difference really."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

any suggestions on framing this myself or is it not a good idea
I have now finished this baby afghan I will need to update the picture but now what do I do with it. I have not stitched round the edges before I started as instructions said to machine stitch and I don't have a sewing machine any suggestions how to finish it without a sewing machine
Hi sophieandmilly,
I love your pictures. Framing stitching yourself can be done though it's unlikely you will get as good results as paying a professional if you haven't done it before. Depends on how precious the item is. Sticky back mount board is useful though isn't recommended for "heirloom pieces" due to the glue content.

Most XS magazines give instructions on how to lace stitching before framing.
Another option is to use a blank canvas and staple the stitching onto it - gives a modern effect though it doesn't protect the stitching at all.
I have just mounted a cross stitched piece onto a cushion. I was going to make the cushion from scratch and went to Dunelm Mill to buy the cushion inner. On my way to the till I spotted some cushions in the size I wanted which were cheaper with the cushion cover and inner than just the inner so as a good MSE i bought the cushion. Later I realised I could stitch the cross stitched piece onto the front of the cushion. I added ribbon around the edges to "frame" the stitching. So I saved time and money. Can you tell I was pleased ? :j
With your afghan the machine stitiching is to provide a line against which you fray the fabric to create the fringe. You could backstitch around the afghan but it would take a while. Finding a friend or relative with a sewing machine would be a better option as it would only take a few minutes of straight stitching with white thread.
Whatever you decide to do they are too lovely not to be displayed.0 -
augustsmummy wrote: »Thanks for the heads up on the magazine subscriptions Auntie H, but I am now left with a difficult decision ladies.
If I subscribe for £5 for 5 issues then 13 at £35.99 I won't qualify for the free DMC thread box.
If I subscribe at £8.99 for 3 issues then £39.99 for 13 issues I qualify. The DMC box is RRP £26.
Hmmm decisions decisions, save money or get the free gift?!
Any ideas ladies on which would be best? Thanks in advance AMx
Why the £35.99 for the 13 issues? I thought you could get 5 issues for £5 and then get another offer rather than just subscribing at the flat rate?0 -
Are you allowed to do that?
I know they don't mind you cancelling after the 5 for £5, but I didn't think they'd let you have another promo?0 -
Hello, To add to last weeks sagas (it could only happen to me); I ended up in A&E after the scan & fine needle biopsy on the lump on Tuesday. The doctor thought he may have caught my chest wall giving me an accidental pneumothorax! Thankfully he hadn't, he'd only burst one of the cyst cluster and the pain from that had made me faint!!!!!
OUCH
So good to hear from you ejs - had been wondering how things were going for you. Really good to hear that it was good news for you and that things are moving forward with your brother. Take care of yourselfSPC NO 041STARTED SW 04/14 - TARGET 05/16 - TOTAL LOSS 10ST 3.5LBS :dance:0 -
I may have miss read it. It says first 5 issues at £5, then every 3 issues you pay £8.99. So am I right in thinking it would be even cheaper that way?
So £5 + (£8.99 x 3 ) = 31.97 for 14 issues
But no free gift, but a saving of £9 on how I read it. Ouch my head hurts, too early for maths!Cross Stitch Cafe Member No: 86 :j0 -
I wanna go home now AM! My brain is about to pop!0
