  • Oh Chickywiggle I feel your pain on that front! DD used to put peas and sweetcorn up her nose! And I don't mean just one, on one occasion 4 :eek:pieces of sweetcorn!
I thought of taking her to A&E a few times, but lukily everytime I got her bundled in her coat she would start sneezing and out they would come.
The worst time she did it was whilst we were out for a meal with my in laws for DDs birthday. She put sweetcorn up her nose, and FIL decided to put pepper on his hand and to make her sniff it (with me protesting as she often did it and sneezed it out herself) and she got pepper in her eye  and had to have her eyes bathed to get it out. Poor thing. No sneezing though despite the pepper.
About 20mins later as MIL was getting frantic DD sneezed and shouted "Mummy look!" holding the offending item proudly :rotfl:.

    Kids huh?
Hope your sons sneezes it out soon, if not you could ring out of hours to see if a Dr or A&E is best. hth

ohhh noooo augustsmummy!!! all gone (i think) - melted!! :D (at least he's not winging about it this hour..... now he says he's hurt his arm and refuses to use it!! (again we are not taking a trip out as the last time it happened the next morning we took him to the childrens hospital.... a 3 hour (IIRC) wait and he was playing quite happily with both arms in the soft play by time we were seen.

My sister got a pearl-coloured bead stuck up her nose when we were kids. She sniffed it and up it went. Cue major panic - me and my sister running downstairs screaming, Mum blowing my sister's nose a few times and off we went (after bedtime) to A&E. Four hours later and they couldn't find it so asked Mum to bring my sister back in the morning.

We all trooped home, where Mum checked the nose-blowing tissue again and there the bead was...

    Hi Ladies,
Just wanted to say how fab all of your creations are. I have just picked up my needle this week to start cross stitching. I brought and magazine and have started on the freebie but I'm not sure I am doing it right! I'm ok with the stitches it's reading the chart and I have thread everywhere! Is there a right and wrong way to tackle the chart eg should I stitch all the same colour 1st or work each square???? What sort of equipment make sthings easier I am struggling with the light, do you need a frame for small pieces of work? how do you sort out your thread without having it everywhere lol. Sorry for all the questions

    Hi Kelly-Lou

I love cross stitching! Here is how I do it :j

For a small kit (such as that given away with a magazine) I don't bother with a hoop or frame.

I typically fold the material to find the centre point and start my cross stitching there and work outwards. I personally start with the darker thread colours first and leave the whites and creams till last then finally the backstitch.

I mark off the chart as I go along either by sticking tracing paper over it or by marking the actual chart if its something I'm unlikely to stitch again (or if the chart is in the mag but also with the free kit).

Its best to sort the threads in daylight and I make thread holders (old cereal boxes cut into strips with holes punched down the side). I mark the thread colours/names against the threads. I punch extra holes so that I can store the unused thread while I'm stitching in that particular colour.

As to accessories well nothing more than some scissors (used solely for cross stitch) but as you fall in love with cross stitch and become obsessed like me, I am sure you will find lots you want to buy :j

As for light, when I first started, I made do with a bulk standard desk lamp with a daylight bulb. but now I have an all singing all dancing cross stitch stand, light and chart holder (that I haven't used ummm since last xmas :rotfl:
    Happy stitching :D

Thanks for that Flat Eric, I will use your tips. I think I will become hooked lol as I am already looking at charts. Where is the best place to buy thread and charts from?

    - got 3-counties (sheffield/ chestrefield/ derbyshire? --> this one isn't great tis a computer generated one not official so who knows what it'll look like when done.
