Saying goodbye, Touched by Magic is going back into the UFO cupboard until after christmas.

Got a Disney princess chart for £2 from ebay, have just started on that. It has the added bonus that when I start stiching DD cuddles up quietly next to me to 'watch me sew the princesses' :D

Love those type of cuddles too Louise. Unfortunately Kezias attention span rivals that of a goldfish but I'm hoping she will keep her interest as she grows up. I recently got her http://www.sewandso.co.uk/Products/Tinkerbell-I-Believe-in-Fairies__ANC-DPFV001.aspx but not sure when I'm going to get the time to do it.

I Love Touched by Magic, I really want to do something from H&E. The trouble is I'm spoiled for choice. And could start my own shop with charts and kits that I have already, lol

ALthough I am not a member of the cross stitch cafe, I would be grateful if any of you could help me please.

Sadly, I lost my Dad last week and I would love to stitch something in his memory. A lot of the Dad or Father based stitch items on ebay seem americanised and I am struggling to find anything on a UK website.

I hope someone can help me in my quest.

    Regards

    Emma

Emma, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss and I think it's a wonderful idea to stitch something in his memory.
Have you considered a sampler? It could be a traditional one or a more modern one and would b easy to incorporate the things he liked.
Do let us know what you decide and show us how it is coming along.

  • Hi Louise
Yes I have gone back to doing the "beach" one. I had to stop procrastinating and get it done lol. Tbh I still feel down with it, think it is because I am still disappointed with my dad. But I need to be the grown up here and just get on with it, because it is to go in the house he shares with my Grandad, and even if Dad doesn't appreciate my effort I know my Grandad will.

I keep promising to post pictures and getting distracted, so I am not promising to put them on anymore lol.

Emma - sorry for your loss, I think it is a lovely idea to stitch something to remember him by.

    Hope everyone is well?

I am still waiting for my Operation date to come through, fingers crossed it will be for the 5th December, so I can enjoy DS birthday with him and be out in time for Christmas ;).

Right off to stitch a bit more, only 10 days to get it posted!

    Hi Louise,
Can I ask your advice on marking out squares please? I'm fine with doing it on aida but am stitiching a lavender and lace santa on linen and have never stitched on linen before. Its got a nice even weave to the linen, not slubby at all, but I can't work out how to mark it with my patchwork pencil.
    How do you do it?
    Thanks
    Thrifty
Hi Thrifty You might want to consider gridding with thread - use tacking cotton in large stitches every 20 threads (same as 10 on aida). I LOVE L&L designs and have done a few and have lots more on my "to do" list - which one are you stitching?

    Hi everyone,

NMM - that's such a lovely idea to use french knots so your grandad can feel them :)

I've started one of the baubles from last months crossstitcher. i needed something quick to pick up when we went to my uncles birthday the other day - i'm glad i did as he spent 1/2 of the afternoon reading the books we'd given him! so i'm glad i had something to do!

ps - i dont know if i told you but i DID finish Dr Who!! and in time for my OH to take it off with him when he met our friend, so it was delievered by hand and no postage costs! i'm really pleased with it and will at some point stitch it again, with the other 10 doctors, for myself!

I use a water eraseable pen, for marking on linen you would be better off with a fine tipped one, sewandso should stock them, if not ebay is your friend :)

Thanks for the replies ladies. I have tried the tacking option before and it got on my nerves when it came to stitching near the tacking stitches and taking them out- I kept getting it stuck:mad:

My patchwork pen is a bit like tailors chalk but in a long clicky pencil. It's brill. So on 32 count linen I mark out 20 by 20 squares? is this right? I'm a bit thick when it comes to numbers, much prefer words:D
My design is "Spirit of Christmas" It's got lots of reds and greens so christmassy. Oh and lots of Krenik gold so some of that wax stuff will be on my shopping list when I go to Knitting and Stitching show at Harrogate next week.
Is anyone else going to Harrogate next weekend? I'm going on a minibus with my stitching group. I have ordered the tickets so I must double check I have put them in my bag or I will have a busful of unhappy ladies to contend with:)

So how do I curb my spending next week? I think I may get all of my unstarted kits out and photograph them with my phone so I can flick through them on the way there- should help a bit I think:rotfl:

I've just spent an hour cross stitching a small robin, put my glasses on to survey the finished design and realised that I have done the whole thing in maroon instead of brown thread -_- that will teach me haha
