sorry, i've not posted in days so have a lot to say!

THANK YOU everyone for the nice comments on my cupcake and the Harvest Quilt hanging. the cupcake was left unfinished for so long as i didnt have a good beige for the bun bit... till i said s*d it and used a varigated instead! i've 3 more Harvest pannels to do... might get another done this year but prob not. hey ho. i'm glad i bought them though as they were limited edition and you cant get them now.

ebaybaby - the cafe numbers are membership numbers, see first post in thread... Chicky assigns them... just ask! Its because a lot of the challenges here have member numbers and we thought we'd join in. i think that's the reason? i cant quite recall... i was around at the start of the numbers, hence getting 23!

    :eek::mad: WARNING!!! GRUMP ALERT!!! :mad::eek:

I am so very disapointed with CROSS STITCHER right now.

I know a lot of you had subs but have cancelled them. I actually liked the new styles that came in about a year ago... i was buying each one in the shops so decided to get a sub starting with 3 for 3... then rolling into 11 per quarter. i was happy, although there were some things i didnt like including the repetitious buttons and general sewing advice and alphabet repeats, i always found something i wanted to stitch. and i loved the free kits (apart from a couple that were dodgy inc the DOVES that i needed a replacement kit for). Some of you knew that already, i just wanted to put my grump in conext.

Now they have removed the SUBS pages... and inscerted 3 sides of advertising the subs instead!!! and they have removed the Emily Peacock Letter... so only on line. what about those of us with dodgy printers? what about those people without computers at all???

and then there's the free gift. i'm thinking of posting this photo on the Cross Stitcher facebook site. do you think i should? :

Cross Stitcher 245 October 2011. Reindeer Cake Band free gift.
Those pins are in the SAME ROW!! how wonky would the finished design come out?!? They really dont care anymore do they? :(:(

(the pins came with it, and they are not finished well so snagged the ribbon)
And that red shadow you see? it isnt a shadow... it's all over the aida band.
and ps. Aida band has finished edges... this is just a Very badly cut strip of very cheap aida.

    Happy Birthday Maria:j:j

    23rd....yikes!!

I actually just cancelled my subscription yesterday (meant to do it for the past year lol) but I totally see where you're coming from and feel the same way about the magazine now.

You should comlain about the kit on the fb site - I doubt they will listen but it might make other people realise that things are not quite right

Aside from the lack of circus letter (shocking btw).....not even a Margaret Sherry design this month to compensate for the rubbish stuff lol

thanks louise. i have calmed down now, and posted a *nice* comment with photo on their fb page asking if i could pretty please have a new kit.
whilst i'm at it, my fox kit was wonky too... i'll sort out these troubles and then see how i feel. thanks for letting me vent here before i said something to them i might regret.

Ive noticed that some of you do all one stitch first then do you go back over and cross it? I like to do mine in a complete cross all in one go, is that right or is it just personal preference?

How often do you all post pics? Once a week? Sorry for the questions!! x x

The stitching question, I do a bit of both.
If I am doing a large area I do each cross individually, I prefer the finished look this gives.
If a single line of stitches branches off the large area though I do what you mentioned. Then once back at the large area I do whole crosses again.
A good stitching tip I got from the ladies here is to make sure all your stitches end up laying the same way. You wouldn't think it would make much difference but it makes the finished piece look much neater. I don't know why but my personal preference is the bottom of the cross goes this way \\\ and the top of the cross the other way ///.

As for posting pics, I post fortnightly but that's purely my preference. I save the pics on my pc and at the slow rate I stitch I find the progress looks better at 2 week intervals than weekly :D
Post your updates as often as you want, we all love to see eachothers work.

ebaybaby. Love your wip, made me smile :) Your DD's design is fantastic for a first try!! I love it!

    pap. Nice progress.

beg. Love the xmas cards. Myrtle Cottage looks fab framed!
I went and looked at the Michael Powell site yesterday to choose a design I liked but the choice boggled my mind :rotfl: I'll have to look again another day.

Thanks for all the lovely comments ladies!

Maria, I think there was only one of those retro lady designs which is a shame as I would of liked a set too. I will copy the pattern and send it to you if you like? Just pm me.

23rd, Ive actually just took out a Cross Stitcher mag subscription, but I did notice everyone on their Facebook page going mad yesterday when they received their copy and the subs pages had been removed. I would defo complain.

hi ailsb, sorry to hear you've been feeling down. i've been up and down myself like a yo-yo recently. can you get help to pay for glasses somehow? i'm sure MSE will have advice... either vouchers or cheaper from Asda or internet or something.

Ailsb, if you know your prescription and what glasses suit you, this site was recommended on MSE: http://www.speckyfoureyes.com/brands/

BEG, Myrtle Cottage looks fabulous! :T
