As an aside how did you expect her to go to the loo while she had them for a day anyway?
She could take them in with her??If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in

How old is the cousin? Personally I don't find it that shocking. As you said, the worse that could have happened was that a ...phile happened to be there at that moment and seized the opportunity, which as we know could potentially happen even when children are closed by. You wouldn't do it because it would make you anxious, but if she didn't, then I don't think it is worth discussing it with her. Put things into perspective. The likelyhood that the man she asked to keep an eye on them had bad intentions or that anyone could come and grab both of them without anyone doing anything is probably 1 in a million. With her gone, it made it probably something like 2 in a million... is the 1 chance they could have in more danger worth getting your MIL upset the the chance that she never takes your son out again? The chance that your son gets upset by it is much more likely to be 1 in a million....
Oh that's not so bad then!If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in

Then you should make sure your children sleep in your bedroom, because by being in their own bedroom, there is a 1 in a million chance that they could be trapped in their bedroom if a fire started in the night...
I'm sure you would think this quite absurb (at least I hope!!). What your MIL did is no different...
It's completely different. And I assume OP has smoke alarms, there are no !!!!! alarms just yet.If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in

Just remember that in reality the old days were just as dangerous as now,,except that these days the whole world hears about an event that would have only been known to very locally and even the local papers would probably have thought twice about publishing.
I agree, however we know much more these days which is why things aren't as relaxed. If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in

Just as I imagine there were a lot of people in the cafe who I'm sure would have raised the alert if they heard kids screaming or dragged by a nasty man.....
They wouldn't necessarily have been dragged or screaming at all though, how far did two 10 year olds get with James Bulger?
Could just be some kid looking old man asking them to help him because he can't manage........anything really!
I realise this isn't highly likely but it's a possibility. If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in

Just seen this after I'd posted, first thing I thought of too.If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in

I love kids, I speak to them, wave and make silly faces at them all the time, often I get looked at as though I have something wrong with me by the parents, even when I have my own kids with me.
I don't care tbh, I'm not going to change the way I am, just because the whole nation is pedo mad.
It is very sad that you can't just be kind to kids these days without being thought to have some sort of agenda. If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in

My in-laws came near us on holiday camping and we went to their campsite for a meal. At the time my DD was 2, we were in the club house and it was packed, I had gone to order the food and MIL was amusing DD in an adjoining room to the bar. Whilst I was stood waiting to order in wandered MIL with no sign of DD, I asked if my OH had arrived and she said "no" I asked where DD was, she had left her stood on a chair at the table football machine . MIL still to this day doesn't understand why I was so upset, I rushed into her and she was crying her eyes out. Needless to say the meal then had a very icy atmosphere.
Now she is 6, I think if she was in a motorway SS with an older cousin and a resturant full of people I would not have left them, would have taken them to the toilet with me and asked the chap to watch the food.
That's what I was thinking! If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in
