Anyone with Sky tv anywhere in the UK can watch this on BBC 2W - channel 991 IIRC.

We have a south facing garden so most of it is sunny just the area at the end of the garden which is normally shady. Not sure of soil type. Thanks for the tips for cats, will try that all over the garden as they are a real pest near to me.

You can start now. Time to dig the area over. Good exercise! Add in well rotted manure if you can, if not, a couple of bags of compost from the garden centre will do.
Remove any nasties like bindweed root etc. And wait a few weeks.
If we do get a gardening board, it will be easy to get advice along the way.

If the area gets no sun you will struggle, but if it get some sun you will be ok just might get lower yeilds.

I grow my toms/garlic in the flower beds and they do very well, so you might want to decide what you would like to grow and position as needed.

Dont forget moneysavers....Support a new garden forum on the suggestions board.

    Good luck

  • Anyone know how to get rid of Japanese knotweed? - from what I've read it seems impossible, it can break through concrete apparently and we have some weaving it's way up our wooden fences and breaking them apart

Alan Titchmarsh says the way to get rid of knotweed is move house

Just about the only practical way is to keep on chopping it down to weaken it, maybe cover the area it comes up in with anything which keeps out light. I don't think these any chemical strong enough, available to the public, to kill it.
