It was, just shows most of it is following the crowd. Either that or she really likes Pasty's.

I have to say this my favourite.
Steven Keith, 43, of Kirkmanshulme Lane in Longsight, is accused of burgling M1 News and stealing items worth £1. He has been remanded in custody.

I hope M1 news is based on postcode not the motorway.

PS - the petition is now up to 143,710. This is, I think, just the only way the poor, disenfranchised people in middle England, who feel they have no voice, can make a stand (without rioting, that is).

Sad isn't it? maybe they should vote next time :)

I love this board. I love the way people can have Shakespearean-style plot and sub-plots going on within one thread. I love the way StevieJ can hop over to other posts (thanks, StevieJ - have just posted a question to you about shorting), and then come and battle with Graham and Really2.

I think we all suffer with a lack of people to joust with in real life. :)

"Gary Herriot, 47, from Collyhurst, admitted handling £1,000 worth of jewellery from Links of London in Manchester - a store targeted by rioters.
Herriot, who has 126 previous convictions, admitted the charge and will be sentenced at Manchester Crown Court later."

And I bet he's still stealing our oxygen to breath. Honestly... if a horse is lame it gets sent to the knacker's yard... whay can't humans have an equivalent?

It is true, most people don't care about anything :)

TBH I am not really that bothered about some of the things I debate about either. :)

Well you would get sacked by your employer if you were charged with a criminal act such as looting. Would that help.

We had to sack a guy who got charged with attempted murder. The guy was innocent in the end. But you have to tow corporate line.

The general reason is bringing the company into disrepute. I dare say that assistant teacher has found that out.

So you find guilt by accusation to be acceptable, rather than the justice system. 'The comany' is doing what is best for them? Sounds like the same mentality as the rioters.

The salesperson accused of drink-driving could be suspended, perhaps given a desk job. If they are found guilty, then they could be dismissed.

Yes - I have read all the posts before this one!

It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
Portfolios are like personalities - one that is balanced is usually preferable.

No it was over a year later he was found not guilty and they never asked for the job back. He was not falsely accused he was charged. I think he was charged with a lesser offence though.
I think the view is you leave them in employment and something happens the company would be negligent.
You cant really keep them on until a case is finished.
Getting into a situation and being charged is what brings the company in to disrepute not the finalisation of the case. The point was they should have never of been in the situation in the first place to get charged.

Cheers - it is (or can be) a tricky situation. If someone were wrongly accused (apologies, I meant wrongly, not falsely earlier) and lost their job because of that it would be a grave injustice and I would expect a tribunal to come down on their side.

Obviously there is the issue of bringing the company into disrepute, and the company must take urgent action to avoid that in any such case, but if it transpired that the charges should never have been brought in the first place then the company should (or at least offer to) reinstate the employee because it was through no fault of their own.

Hello, it's not me you will see it in your work contract.
Something like "the right to terminate contract should conduct outside work bring the employer into disrepute."

Under that you would have the right to sack them on drink driving should it effect their job. I am sure we have all seen the advert with the bloke at the bar "no money no job".

So it is contract law, not me.
