We received a welcome pack from Budget Energy today and it states "Please ensure that you have enclosed the following in order to process your application as efficiently and effectively as possible within the Budget Energy system" and then there are four boxes in the checklist. Point 4 states "An Up to Date Meter Reading (To be recorded on the Customer Agreement Form" but we have already entered our meter reading online so should we just ignore this part or do we need to send a more up to date reading than two days ago?
Also, since we haven't had a bill from Power NI since September we owe them money although they have been taking money by monthly dd, which will not cover what we owe, will we still be able to switch to Budget Energy? I did look Budget Energy's website for an answer but I could not find one.0 -

So time to load up on cheaper units then for those on keypads then? Suppose you can pile as much on as you can afford and keep the savings for as long as possible.
You could top up extra and put off the evil day of paying the increased prices. However when PowerNI increased their prices in October, the first top-up after the rise had a very looooong code to input and it changed the unit price. As far as I remember, it then adjusted the amounts used from the increase date to the top-up date and money was deducted from the top-up straight away. There were no actual savings made by loading up prior to increase.0 -

Yes I had to query that too. Basically, send a photocopy of your latest PowerNI or Airtricity bill and write a new meter reading on it somewhere visible. That's what I was told and did. I had no issues or problems.
As for the second point, the updated meter reading you supply BE with they will send this to PowerNI as the closing meter reading and then they will bill you / collect your monthly DD as appropriate. We were on quartely DD so we just had an amount taken out 14 days after the closing PowerNI bill. PowerNI also put in a wee "sorry your leaving" leaflet too!Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

I *assume* that PowerNI will send you a closing bill yes. Ours said the balance would be taken after 14 days by DD (we were quarterly DD) so assume yours would be the same.Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34

I'm just thinking, should I submit a meter reading on the BE website tonight when I get home so that they have a reading that will be charged at the lower rate before tomorrow's higher rate kicks in? Or just leave it? Not sure how they would know what has been used at what rates though.
Wonder also if they will write and tell me my DD amount is increasing - I hope not as would rather pay them a small amount as per the reconciled quarterly bill than having credit with BE.
Anyone else on bill pay have an idea?Regards, Robin.2011 MFW # 34
