You get one 50 minute tutorial on some unreadable article and they expect you to write an essay on it. It is completely hopeless to expect you to understand it after such little teaching time.

  • what year of your studies are you in phil? maybe they just expect you to do emmense amounts of research and work it all out for yourself during 'independent study' - which ofcourse, noone has time for because they strategically postion all the lectures in such a fashion that you get 15 mins for lunch and several random 10 min breaks throughout the day which are useful for nothing except for sobbing in a corner due to stress! haha they sure do spoil us that uni lot!

Year 3- it is stupid to expect you to research when you dont even get the first article. I have tried reading more articles and then you get stuck with more unreadable articles that do not help your understanding.

I'm only in my first year and have one 1000 word essay to write and another 500 word mini essay. Both in for Friday. I think I can just about make it (everything crossed!!)

Personally I wish they would stick to teaching you the ideas of one article properly than just trying to pack so much into a course and teaching you nothing as a result.

i have to agree with you on that one Phil.

  • I know what you mean phil! i'm in my 3rd year too and had an exam just before christmas within which i was required to discuss a journal, one which i did not understand - i just got together with some friends and we all tried to work it out - it didn't work.. i still have no idea what it was about! haha.

Good luck Mukaki, i'm sure you will be fine!

    Yes, you probably should.

I find it really shocking that they dont teach you very well at university. At degree level it is very hard and you need teaching more than any other stage in your schooling because of that. Yet no one seems to have any time to help you or teach you anything and I do feel most let down about that.

yep i have the urge to tidy up when i know i have to do work. but once i start im ok, its just that initial starting point that gets me.

I'm exactly the same! How weird. I can be at home for a couple of days, full of good intentions to get stuff done, and surprisingly not much does get done. Then when I know I have to go out to work I only want to stay at home, because I KNOW I would do it if only I didn't have to go out right then.

The thing is I always know i'll feel better if I get things done, and I always end up feeling $h!te when I don't, but that still doesn't seem to be enough motivation for me. :o
