i just found myself watching podcasts on the procrastination research group website, after reading about the origins of Expeditus, the patron saint of procrastination.
today i have also cleaned my room, done washing, updated my myspace page and learned how to cook the perfect omellette. oh and learned a new card trick.
i wouldn't have done any of this if i hadn't got two assignments due next week, niether of which i have started.
i'm really getting an urge to sharpen my pencils now. does anyone else do this??What's it going to be, eh?0 -
yep i have the urge to tidy up when i know i have to do work. but once i start im ok, its just that initial starting point that gets me.0

to be slightly less defeatist, procrastination isn't always a negative thing... i've said this in other posts, but to reiterate: a lot of people do their best work under pressure. me included. maybe i'm addicted to the adrenaline rush of handing in my work 1-minute before the deadline and somehow getting good marks, hence not being able to get organised?! however, i'm sure that if i wasn't such a procrastinator i could achieve a first.
saying that, there are some things that i am very organised with, i.e. money! it just seems to be university work that is the 'problem'.
:rotfl: Felt like I was reading about myself!! Let me know when you find a cure?!!!0 -
as snowangel suggested, i've come to the library. no distractions.
i too am making a new years resolution to not leave things till last minute and start attending lectures. Main reason for the later is i've been filling in job application forms and realised i'll need a reference from uni, none of my teachers will have a clue who i am.
right, deep breath, i'm making a start...What's it going to be, eh?0 -
Best of luck teaboy, i am 1400 words into my 2000 and i have no idea what else i am gonna write, think i may call it a day for today and do some more tomorrow when i am refreshed.0

Procrastinators of MSE unite!!!
OK, I have a 2,000 word essay that has to be handed in on Monday and I still have a long way to go.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can stay awake? My problem is that I am totally exhausted from working (paid work) and am on shift this weekend. Had to be up at 5:30 this morning and it's the same tomorrow. So not only am I procrastinating but I am find it very hard to focus on anything due to tiredness. Am making endless cups of tea and even had a nap earlier but nothing seems to help...
If only I hadn't procrastinated over the past few weeks then I would be in this situation now. It doesn't matter what I do...I've tried timetables and tried rewarding myself with 'treats' but it hasn't worked so far. I've always been like this and really want to change because if I apply myself more, I can easily get a first. It's just getting started that is sooooo hard!!
Now what else is there on the internet that I can look at....0 -
Hmmmm ok can probably top the lot of you lol. Got 4 assignments due in this week, total of 6000 words. 2 aren't so bad, but other 2 are hideous physiology modules, question being 'Demonstrate an understanding of.....' Know what I wanna say but god where to start.
Got 500 words on easy one so far.....

I usually get that feeling around 11pm the night before it's due. Hah, with regard to the podcasts... It's a bit like me, I'm procrastinating by reading about tips to beat procrastination! E.g. this thread.
As for the library, I usually end up doodling, or reading on a completely irrelevant topic. I'm beyond help... It doesn't even phase me anymore. Probably because I know that it will be done, just... when it registers properly.Does anyone have any ideas on how I can stay awake?
Coffee is my friend... Although sometimes it gets to the point where I just can't concentrate due to tiredness + the mandatory caffeine high. Or try sleeping for just a couple of hours, then waking yourself up with your alarm clock.
Alternatively, give your parents/partner your internet, tv and dvd connections, and tell them to refuse to give you it back until you present them with the essay!
Actually, this thread is making me want to attempt my essay... How bizarre! To ignore the urge, or not to ignore the urge. Hmm.0 -

Heh I'm ashamed to but I can beat that easily:o
13 to get done, total of around about 20000 words. Admittedly, about 8 are late already.
I've always procastinated, but I've always somehow managed to pull it all together in the nick of time, and get a good mark. Please don't pm me asking to eat me because you are hungry.
I am NOT a sausage roll.0
