Would 800 spin really do for denim? I've always used a 1200 for jeans. Denim is cotton isn't it?

when I went on holiday this summer I had to use an Indesit WD. It's top spin was either 800 or 900 (can't remember which) which was next to useless! Everything came out almost dripping and took hours to dry. Maybe the machine was clapped out, hence being used in holiday let, but I was not impressed! If I didn't put the clothes out to dry early in the day I would have to use the dryer when we came back from where-ever, which took an age too. Never been convinced by the WDs. I had one myself years back, a Zanussi, I hated it.

Anyway, if the top spin needs only be a 1200 0r 1400 max why does the ISE10 have 1600 spin? I am more than happy with the 1200 on my current Zanussi. It seems to be plenty adequate. I have read the article you mentioned Sensemaya, he doesn't seem convinced by more than 1400 either.

I was all ready to order an ISE10 but now I don't know. I think the top spin would be redundant in my house. What spin does the ISE5 have?

    Hi saffrongirl,

    This article may help ;)

    Here's the basic problem...

Manufacturer's consistently play the "mine's bigger than your's" game. So we have faster spin speeds, larger drums and goodness knows what else, most of which most people will never use or even care about. But, it's a selling point and the biggest, fastest, most featured or whatever this month will be the best.

    Or so you're told.

The trick is to cut through the marketing BS and decide what you actually need.

There are pros and cons to high spin speeds and, if you can live with the compromises then it's fine.

The only way to get n A rating for spin is to have a greater than 1500rpm spin. But, apart from that, the reason that the ISE10 has a 1600rpm spin is that it meant that a brushless induction motor with inverter was used which is lower maintenance and also a lot quieter.

For denim specifically, as with most things, the creasing increases with the spin speed, but there's more moisture extracted. Like most things in life it's a compromise, you can get one, the other or something in between but you can't have the best of both worlds. Just that same as you can't have easy to use simple controls and all the options under the sun, somewhere you have to compromise.

With ISE10 it was always about durability and simplicity. Simple to use and keeps on going for a very long time as, in all honesty, most people don't really want the hassle of complicated controls and options when all's said and done. Even if you do get sold some whizz bang, must have features.

  • The Miele spin figures are based on the best spin speed to give optimum care for the individual fabrics and not getting the most water out. Spinning denim at 800 or 900 will leave them too wet for some people but will also make them last longer and have much less creases in. As K says it's down to which compromise you want to make, best care for fabrics or most water spun out?

Come back when you've used it a few times and let us know what you think TechnoBoy. It's top of my list when I replace my old Hotpoint.

I fully expect you will be delighted with it, without any need for Lady Luck. What is your expected date of delivery?

Btw, the discussion of spin speed has been very interesting. I always use the 1600 where possible, and even spin my woollies again after the cycle is complete. I have not noticed any problems.

Lady Luck is required as each time we buy something non-mainstream it tends to go pear-shaped! Don't mention the Keston Boiler ....

No delivery date yet - to be fair I placed the order an hour or so before close of business.

Have two sprogs of three and under, and working on the third, so when it arrives it's going to get a good test ... particularly looking forward to the variable rinse part as our 1 year old has a few minor skin problems probably due to washing powder.
  • Another question about spin - on the Zanussi it has a rinse hold which I use quite a lot if I'm going to be out for a while to cut down on creasing. Is this function available on the ISE10? Also can I just use spin cycle on its own? As sometimes, due to the wonderful British weather, my washing gets wet again and I just need to spin it again.

Btw whats a Keston boiler? :-)

    Hi saffrongirl,

All you need to do is set the machine to no spin which, from memory, you can do for any program.

So far as I know and, I'm not really involved in the delivery bit, most are done and dusted in about five days. It just depends on who can get there fastest and when you hit the delivery cycle of the hauliers which is, TBH, a postcode lottery at times. :S

Well my hoover WDM130 washer is on its last legs, i've had it 5 yrs and luckily I took out the extended warranty! its cost me about £700 overall though! Within the first 2 yrs the motor required replacing, door hinges were shot and it was underfilling with water.

Now the bearings have been wearing on it for the last year and its getting so noisy now that we cant hear ourselves in the other room with the door closed. The drum moves freely inside but there is noticeable movement on the drum almost like it is bumpy in the bearings if that makes sense.

Not sure how long it will last for or at what stage the bearings are close to failing completly but when it does die I will get an ISE10.

They are identical looking to the maytag washer on this page @ £505 inc delivery, not sure about the warranty but if its 5yrs I guess its still good and a lot cheaper.

    http://we-sell-it.co.uk/value/prodpages/maytag-appliances/MAF9501AEW.html

My friend has the maytag version paid nearlly £800 for it and gets 5 yr warranty and its silent operating.

What I would like to know is what is diferent in the maytag versions and the ISE10 version whilst identical looking apart from colour.

Are the parts even better qaulity than the maytag. I know they are both built by asko but is the ISE really a ISE badged maytag so to speak?

    Thank you.
