New Washing Machine/Concept: ISE CI555WH

If you want 15+ years out a machine then you're looking at ISE10, Miele or perhaps a very high end pukka "built in Germany" Bosch/Siemens machine (£700+), that's your options for that requirement. There's no other machine that will even come close and there's no others I'd even hope for that sort of lifespan out of.

The ISE10 would be my recommendation especially for anyone who is competent to do a few repairs during the washer's lifespan because the spares are likely to be considerably cheaper and there's likely to be tech support help available on the Internet.Whitegoodshelp0 -
Does anyone know how many spin speeds are on the ISE10 WM and what they are? I can only see 1600 in product blurb but sometimes I like to use a lower spin such as 900 or 1000. Also I read somewhile ago that a 1400+ spin can damage materials. Is this correct?

Hi safrongirl,
0/800/1600 are the options on the ISE10. 800 or no spin are the only options on delicates/wool programs to prevent clothing damage.
It is true that certain modern fabrics can be damaged by high spin speeds, as can very light garments and poor quality ones. People blame the washing machines all the time for that when it's often the clothing that's the problem.

Saffrongirl, the ISE 10 has a button that togs between 1600, 800 and No Spin. Cottons should be OK at 1600 and anything else I would advise you use 800. Only cottons really need spinning at top spin. According to Miele even Denim should only be spun at 900 rpm and there's hardly any difference between 800 and 900.
Spinning fabrics other than cotton at high speed is not recommended.Whitegoodshelp0 -

Specs: Spin speed 0/800/1600rpm
I was going to get an ISE, but ended up with a Miele 3922 because I could get it interest free plus 10 year guarantee. Miele appear to have ceased production on that model, however.
I tend to use 1600rpm on all our clothes, except delicates etc. I don't think the clothes get damaged. Read on the excellent washerhelp site that there is not much difference between 1400 and 1600.0 -

Many thanks Sensemaya :-) Here's the article in case anyone's interested. A 1600 rpm is necessary for an A rating on spin efficiency but even ISE agree a 1400 is perfectly adequate - even a 1200 is fine as far as I'm concerned.

I am currently testing an ISE 10 and will be reviewing it shortly btwWhitegoodshelp0 -

Hi Andy
Just to go off topic a little regarding Miele.
I tend to use the cotton cycle the most. A 40c wash takes longer than the 60c wash. Is this because it takes longer to get clothes clean on the 40c wash? I find it strange.
I also wash my silks and spin them on 400rpm. So would you advise people to spin silks on 800rpm?0 -

I wish the forums would re-open again. It was great fun reading them and very helpful. I spent a lot of time on there.0 -
Hello Sensemaya. Thanks very much.
Yes, longer time is required on a 40 degree wash, especially if using biological detergent. We are supposed to be able to get just as good results these days using 40 degrees as we used to get using 60 degrees but extra time is required.
Here's a list of recommended spin speeds from a Miele instruction manual- Cottons: 1400 rpm
- Minimum iron: 1200 rpm
- Delicates: 600 rpm
- Woollens: 1200 rpm
- Silks: 400 rpm
- Shirts: 600 rpm
- Denim: 900 rpm

Many thanks, Andy.
It's such a shame about the forums, but I appreciate it must be very time consuming for you. I will follow your blog though.
Well I'm going to continue using the 60c wash for all the whites. This includes my boys undies, socks and school polo shirts. Sometimes I even wash my t-shirts on 60c and they have come up smashing. They also stay white longer.
I recently posted about my mum's w/machine packing in here but visited your site first. Looks like I cannot pursuade her to get a decent w/machine and she is plumming for another Indesit from the Argos catalogue. Very annoying :rolleyes:0
