My 15yr old Zanussi just bit the dust this week. I knew it was coming, (bearings). Had a nice man out to look at it. He said he could repair it, but it would be a big (expensive) job and recommended I bought a new one as he couldn't guarantee that something else wouldn't go wrong with it sometime soon. Apparently, Zanussi aint what they used to be either. So I was thinking of a Miele....
After much research and deliberation, lovely husband has ordered me an ISE10 and I can't wait to get it. None in stock 'til later in the month, unfortunately. (Great, 3 weeks with no WM!).
The initial cost is eyewatering, I admit, but hopefully it will be the last WM we will ever need to buy.
Have you come to a decision yet artichoke?Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
Hi Folks,
There is no stipulation on an order quantity for ISE other than the basic ISE2 and the minimum for that is 3 appliances, certainly not 10. For ISE5 and ISE10 the dealers can order 1 machine at a time if they like.
The ISE5 is a mix basically of price, features and durability but whenever anyone says that any product has to meet a price point there are compromises I'm afraid. That said it's a nice machine for the money and pretty good value when you consider that it is fully insured for five years.
The ISE10 is just out and out quality. There was no restraint on pricing just the brief to build the best washer possible at a sensible price. You may think that £800 is stratospheric in terms of price but if you consider that, should you throw it out on its tenth birthday, it only cost £80 a year it's really actually good value. Consider also that the warranty is insured with AXA, so no repair costs unless you do something really silly but it does show the confidence in the machine.
But, if it lasts the twenty plus years of it's intended lifespan then that cost is halved.
The ISE10 is essentially a commercial chassis and is indeed the only machine in the UK that carries a 3 year semi-commercial warranty so it's good for and, is being used in, MOD bases, Premier Travel Inn's, schools and bed and breakfast type places as well as a host of others. They get hammered in these places and, they survive it easily as they are built to take a bit of punishment and not fall over at the first sign of trouble. They are also a LOT cheaper to maintain hence a lot of Miele machines have been replaced with ISE10 in these sort of places.
In the end it's up to people to decide what they want, you can go buy a cheap machine and toss it out every few years or you can buy a decent one in the first place, which will cost more upfront but not have the hassles later. It doesn't save you money up front I totally agree, but it does save a bucketload over the life of the machine.
However the machine at 20 years old, relatively what did that cost 20 years ago and what would it cost today? I'm sure if you work it out you'll probably come up with a figure approaching or over £1000 in today's money. It's just that a lot of the stuff being sold these days is cheap rubbish that makes it look expensive and people have it in their heads that a washer should cost £XXX because that what they paid for the last one, decades ago.
But I use an ISE10 in my house and, it just works. That's what I want as the last thing I want to do when I go home is look at a busted washer and I don't want the earache about it either.

How long have you had yours...?
Am just about to try and put a new door seal on my 12 year old Hoover Softwave. If it needs to be replaced I was considering this one myself....0 -
Well, I'm biased as I spec'd the machine.
The one I have is only about a year old now, they were introduced in October 2007 under the ISE brand but have been around since 1954 IIRC. It's the first one I've had as, quite simply, I couldn't afford one before but when the old Blomberg packed in it was one of these that was going in.
Main 40˚C wash in an hour and fifteen to thirty five suits my better half just fine and the results from the machine have been great. It just does the job quietly, efficiently and quickly with no fuss or drama and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to make it work, it's dead simple to use.
I've been working with the Swedish factory that makes these machines for over 20 years and we regularly get asked for parts for machines that are well over 20 years old. People will even pay what seems quite high prices for the parts as they won't part with the machines and, if it is totally beyond repair, almost all will buy another of these machines like the ISE10. But they're not just chucked away as they are superb quality and can be fixed at sensible prices when that time comes.
They're as bombproof as it gets for a reasonable price TBH and without the restrictive practices and silly spares prices of a certain German company.

Despite Miele being expensive at the initial purchase, they are machines that do what they are said to do.
I am not convinced with the ise brand either, and despite the ise10 being cheaper than a Miele, it certainly wont be as well built without a doubt.
You pay your money and you take what you get, but i know which one I would choose.
And this makes interesting reading, and speaks volumes:

You post on here as well Adam?
Do I have to explain how Miele rip people off here too as well as the flaws in some of the design?

Have a Miele and it is good. Would I buy anything else, er, no. No Brainer.

K.
Actually K, I wouldn't mind hearing what you have to say please.
My d-i-l recently bought a Miele washing machine as it came with a free 10 year warranty.
Having read about the ISE10 I've already got it at the top of my listwhen my present Hotpoint gives up the ghost, but was going to compare it with a Miele when the time comes. My d-i-l is pleased with her Miele, but I don't think I would go for one if I couldn't also get a free 10 year warranty.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts.0 -
After a lot of research I decided to replace my washing machine, Tumble Dryer and Dishwasher with ISE models. As I was going to buy three units from a supplier I asked for a discount but was told they would lose the ability to sell ISE products if they discounted. From the ISE website I phoned three other suppliers around the UK and each one said they can only use ISE strict pricing.
Is this legal? I thought fixed pricing was not permitted? Does anyone know?0 -
Have they fixed the price, higher, and they are the only suppliers to sell washing machines then. No, I don't think so. Go and buy a discounted Candy...0
