Without a blue badge how would Ikea police these? Take peoples word for it for fear if being taken to court? It becomes pointless having disabled bays.
Again fairplay to IKEA for taking action on these spaces! Alot of places dont and they are heavily abused!

Well this is a case of common decency lacking! If people were more honest we wouldn't have a problem would we.

I have no answer for you regarding how to police the bays, but I will say that ParkingEye employ people to do a job; as far as I'm concerned, they are doing it badly.
  • Actually, the other answer would be to expand the size of their regular bays. Not only would that mean disabled users can park anywhere, but it also means that people who park their cars don't have to worry about someone sashing a car door into theirs and leaving a dent.

Your next argument is going to be: "That will mean less parking spaces."

My answer: "Yes. But it will avoid the whole issue we've been 'discussing'."

I applied for a badge, but haven't heard from them yet. However, I meet the "automatic entitlement" criteria, so the badge WILL be issued.

I have been wheelchair bound for 12 years due to an operation I had when I was 16 years old. Forgive me for feeling I'm owed something! I have spent the last 12 years building a life that I can manage and am a successful business woman. I don't slouch around all day doing nothing because "Oh poor me, I'm disabled!" - So please rethink your posts, as both so far have had a dig at me and I don't appreciate it.:(

Bottom line a blue badge is the only way to police these bays. Whatever the law states or not.
Issuing tickets to those failing to display a blue badge is again the only way to police, entiled or not.
How would you feel if all the bays were taken by people who didnt have the need for them!
If you feel that is a dig at you then sorry.

No we wouldn't. We wouldn't have riots and looting in our major cities either.
There is a lot of support for people who are less able than the average person in this country. Unfortunately, ensuring it is only those with a genuine need who benefit is a challenge in today's environment.

Indeed - My head hurt after the confrontation - I came to the conclusion that I was going to get nowhere.

Anyway! Will let you all know what happens as soon as I hear anything. Back to work for me! :-)

Bottom line is that a retailer is going to find themselves sued for compensation - I hope - very soon, for taking exactly the lazy approach you are advocating.

It is obviously 'easier' to 'police' bays if you can use the Blue Badge scheme when looking at advisory disabled bays - but the bottom line is that discriminates against non-Blue-Badge-holding disabled people, which is UNLAWFUL. And by the way, those people would not all be waiting for a Badge to be posted, many disabled people would not need or want to apply for a Blue Badge (say if they don't drive) but would still qualify to use reasonable adjustments when being driven into a retail car park to go shopping.

I don't give a flying fig how difficult that makes life for the PPCs, it's a fact. And PPCs should not be 'policing' any bays anywhere, they are not an authority on parking, they are just parasites with no knowledge of the Equality Act and no other agenda at ll except money-grabbing.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

You can get a blue badge without driving! People who abuse disabled spaces are parasites

    Parasites? Nice.

The point is, not everyone does. I put my case forward to the PPC and they chose to ignore me altogether. I sincerely feel I received the charge through no fault of my own. I had two choices: drive back here after a 1.5 hour journey (I got lost) there, or park in a bay I could use (as stated, regular bays are too small) and shop in the store (who own the carpark).

I chose to shop, obviously, as I don't see that my having or not having a badge should stop me from going about my business. You obviously do, and so we will need to agree to disagree. Your posts are actually not helping in any way whatsoever, and as I feel I'm completely in the right, I will stick up for myself, and any poor sod who has received and paid these ridiculous charges.e to be provided for ALL disabled people, blue badge or no blue badge.

None of this makes any difference anyway; spaces hav

I feel inclined to ask: Do you need or use a blue badge?

Forgot to say, not everyone who should be entitled to a blue badge knows that they can get one without a car.
