Tallgirl The potatoes need to go below the water/gravy in your slow cooker or they won't cook. I always chop them quite small too.

Victory think about your appetite - is it large or small? With SW you get loads of free foods, including potatoes, pasta etc on green days and meat or fish on red days. These don't have to be weighed or measured and so you need never be hungry. When I did WW (which was many years ago) I was always hungry. I do know that WW have lately started a plan which is very similar to SW, it's just that I know SW works and I have no experience of the other one. Also SW's cheaper (I think) at £4.50 a week class fee.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Hi Folks, well we made it to Friday, I have been such a saint this week I can hardly believe it!

    Menu for today:

Brekky: Hardboiled egg and toast and a cup of tea
    Mid morning: Cup a soup
Lunch: Brown rice salad made with cheese, yellow pepper, cherry tomatoes and spring onion (was yummy) and a peach yoghurt
Mid aft snack: nuts, dried fruit and seeds
    Dinner: Not yet decided

I had a fab find in Asda yesterday, some little tiny wheelie bin shaped tupperware containers for 25p each which are just the right size to bring nuts and dried fruit to work in!

I am off out to a friends tonight so will no doubt be using up all my alcohol allowance, I am going to have to try and resist the nibbles she always puts out too - well I might have one or two :D

Thank Consultant that makes sense since some were cooked and some hard.
Edimew I think it is fine with 7 glasses of wine vs 7 pints, mine are quite large glasses so shall we start today then.
Shopaholictietheknot sounds like a good food day just don't ruin it by having a naugthy dinner.
Victory hope you decide which class to go to and do report how they are as I am really curious to learn more.

hi, is there anyone else on here doing the rosemary conley diet?

  • yay! back online. I discovered an unexpected side effect to the 2 litres of water thing last week. The 250ml i spilt over my work computer didn't help my weight loss at all. So here I am back with a shiny new one which is nice, but minus the last 6 months which is absolutely dreadful. I've just been through the loooong list of posts since i was last on here and it's nice to see lots of new people plus the same faces. And i can't remember who posted it but i loved the 'farting soup' reference - I posted something similar as my first week on Slimming World nearly ended my relationship. OH really couldn't bear to be in the same room as me. Still I'm used to it now so it's okay.

Pxxysue what is potato gulash? It soundsyummy.

And for the people who were asking about the SW online service, that's what I use and it's great, especially combining it with this thread. The recipe archive is good as is the syns online service. I find the food diary invaluable as it works everything out for you. I didn't fancy the idea of a class but if ou like the companionship of that then you can get it on here. It's £20 per month or you can get discounts if you sign up for a few months in advance. My original intent was to sign up for 3 months, print EVERYTHING off and then cancel but I like being able to log in and look stuff up.

Finally well done to all the gym bunnies, I have managed twice this week which is a major achievement. It would have been three times but I forgot I had an appointment and couldn't go at the last minute. I had my eyelashes permed last night - they put little rollers on them and everything! honestly!

so went on SW and WW websites and SW comes up trumps as it deals with diabetics like me and has freedom foods but then everyone I talk to says no no no go to WW so WHICH ONE?!!!!!!! xxx

    Hi victory

I have tried both SW and WW, so this is my take on it.

SW - you can eat more, but I found it a bit restrictive as it is similar to the hay diet on food combinations. It use to be red (protien) and green days (carbs), so once you went one route for the day (say green), you had to count what you had if you then fancied the red day that day. Consultant recently posted about another plan they had where you can alter between their two plans at every meal and this may have suited me better, but this wasn't there when I went. On SW you can eat loads, but I found that I always wanted loads on my plate, but was hoping to eat less so my tum didn't feel so big. I lost 2 stone and then when I left the club, I soon put it back on again. If you don't think you want to learn about portion control and want to eat lots, then SW may be the one for you.

WW - Teaches what I wanted to go it on my own, portion control and a balanced meal on a plate and no limited (healthy) foods for that day. They have two plans, a No Count plan that my friend used to lose 2 stone (she didn't go to club - just used their books which she got on her first visit). She got to target 13 months ago and has stayed there. On No Count, you can eat anything from their free list on any meal, including protien and carbs, plus you can use 21 points a week from their other lists if you want. The second plan is a points system. I lost a stone of my weight on the points plan, then anothe stone on No Count (both not going to classes, but the No Count I have used while being on this forum) and it has stayed off. My stomach seems to have shrunk as even if I want to eat something unhealthy, I get full up very quickly. Plus my stomach is getting much flatter as my portions are smaller. When I went to WW last January I got their book and a chart to work out how many points are in food, so very cheap as I never went back again and I didn't need to access their site with the latest password as I got all I needed on my first and only visit. Not good for WW, but good on my purse:D

Why not try one for a while and see how you get on with it? You can always change to the other club at a later date?
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

I have tried both ww and sw. sw works better for me. the thing i like most is (aside from lots of foods you can eat) the website is included in the price of your meetings. You just pick up the password at every weigh in and you can logg on and track your progress and read lots of info and get upto date on all the latest healthy extras etc.
weight watchers charges you £6.99 a month on top of your meeting to use theirs and that really annoys me.
    HOW MUCH ?

Hello all, I was hoping I could join the 2lb weight loss club.

With regard to the slimming clubs I have tried both SW and WW and found I lost to begin with but then stopped, got fed up, gave up and put the weight back on! They're not everyone's cup of tea (as I found out) but they do work for some - I know someone who has lost 4st on SW and has completely changed her lifestyle - I think it's a case of you need to try them to see if they are right for you especially if you manage to get free membership.

The internet can be good - I think there is a free internet site where you can track calories called dailydiettracker.
    Good luck to everyone xxx

  • OK all you sw experts! I've been looking at the trial menu and am a bit confused about green days - what does one eat? Obviously all the carbs you want, but what about some form of protein? The whole diet seems (from the trial menu - sure it can't all be like that) to rely very heavily on eggs - whilst I love them, OH has high cholesterol and is only supposed to eat one a week.

What do you do on green days? It can't really be greens and carbs... can it?
If you don't have anything nice (or constructive) to say... DON'T SAY IT!
  • Only just found the time to check in. Very pleased as I had lost 4 & 3/4 lbs when I weighed in at work on Wed - I was slimmer of the week!! There are 6 of us and only 1 had put on (1/2 lb). Just got to maintain the momentum now - mustn't relax. Just off to change signature. Good luck y'all.
Weight loss - here we go again - watch this space!
