Lose Weight 9

Evening all
So many posts to read - I can't keep up, but it's great!
Just to add my two pennorth to the discussion about Slimming World, I first heard about it from a friend who had lost two stones following the plan. She told me about all the free foods you can eat and I was sceptical to say the least. A couple of months went by and while I was feeling miserable on a starvation diet only losing half a stone, she had lost another stone! She lent me her books and I started following it myself and the weight started dropping off, so then I joined up and went with her to class, and lost 6.5 stone in 18 months.
I can understand anyone being sceptical, because I was myself, but the facts speak for themselves. I'm always reading success stories about people who have lost huge amounts of weight, and in nearly every case, they've followed SW to do it. I read about one woman who lost NINETEEN stone - her doctor had given up on her and said the only way she'd ever lose weight is if he cut off her legs so she couldn't reach the cupboards! She decided to prove him wrong - and did!
I'm not knocking other diets, they work too, but my problem with diets such as Rosemary Conley and Weightwatchers is that you run out of food and the only options open to you are salad and vegetables. Being hungry is counter productive - it makes you feel low in energy, and eventually you give in to temptation and binge on the wrong foods. Low calories diets can work if you've got a stone or less to lose, but if you've got a lot of weight to lose, you have to be realistic about how long it can take and recognise that you may not have the willpower to stick to it until you get to target.
There's a phrase in the Slimming World book of slimming that I use as my mantra - 'Would you like to know how to lose so well in just one week that you'll be hooked? Try your hardest to prove Food Optimising (SW) doesn't work ... show that while it may work for every other slimmer in the world, you are the exception that will prove Food Optimising is wrong.'
When I need to focus on losing weight, or I'm having doubts, I stick to the plan 100% and it works, because I can eat enough not to be hungry.

Hmm... I must admit to still being a tad cynical about the SW diet but I won't reject it out of hand in view of the huge successes that some of you have had with it.
I presume it works on the fact that you can only eat so much vegetables and starchy foods before you feel full? I don't want to go through the constantly hungry thing again but I would rather do that than gain any weight. So I'll obtain the latest SW magazine tomorrow and sort out all the stuff re red/green days etc and get back to you.
xxxxI wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latterbut my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!

Hi there
I have one and a half stone to loose. 11st back down to 9.5 following stopping smoking. Ideally about 2 - 3lb a week.
WW isn't doing the trick at all even with 3 x 30 min gym sessions a week.
Any tips what would be best ?xxxdxxx

Not true about Weight Watchers now Lois. They now have a No Count plan, which means there are lots of free foods. You can also select their points plan, which teaches you about selecting healthy options and portion control to help people stay thin when they reach target. I think people who like to eat lots, start off with the No Count plan. You can move between the plans too.
Anyway, what is wrong with vegtables?:D I love brussel sprouts and my favourite snack now is fast becoming the wild rocket salad with spinnach and watercress.:eek:RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Hi and welcome. I'm not going to bore you and everyone else by going through my Slimming World spiel again. Have a look at the recipes (post 1 and follow the link) and see what you can eat and still lose weight, then you can make up your own mind which plan you want to follow.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Hello all (there's lots of you now!)
Had a better day at work today - hardly had a minute but the bad thing was that it was a buffet lunch again. Had 3 egg sandwich triangles, a handful of crisps and a half of a small cake (even cut it into half myself and left the other half on the plate with the rest - damge limitation!)
Came home late and ended up eatimg a smallish piece of cheese (bigger than it should have been but could have been worse) a handful of doritos and pickled onions. I haven't bothered working out the syns as they are obviously not good but I have stopped now. Back on the wagon.
I think having reached my original target has encouraged me to relax a bit - well, CELEBRATION OVER !!!!!
Have 5 more lbs to shift before I reassess again. I thought about my university days today and realised that I am actually thinner than when I left at 25 over 10 years ago. I may see some old uni people soon and its an incentive to carry on - I'd like a bit of Botox next (I'm 35) to stop the beginnings of saggy skin around the eyes but everyone is telling me not to. What do you think?
My 35 year old mid life crisis is definitely in full swing!
help me!0 -
Hi Rachel, I don't think it will have been too bad - depends on how big your handfuls are I suppose
and at least the pickled onions are free!
Botox....ooh, I'm not keen on the idea of having a toxic product injected into me, specially round the eyes.
I'm a firm believer in growing old gracefully, but that's probably because I'm growing old (though disgracefully up to now :rotfl: ).
I'm sure it's only you who sees the saggy skin - it's probably not nearly as bad as you think.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
"I'm sure it's only you whos sees the saggy skin"
Thats what my friend says! I look at myself close up in the mirror whereas everyone else is at least a foot away!
I can still see it though! I have always been told that I am "attractive" and looked young for my age but I can see it all changing recently and don't like it! Getting older is rubbish!!!
Why is it that when you see the adverts on telly for wrinkle creams and you know they are all propaganda but still buy the product in the vain hope they'll work - I still buy the Clarins and Clinique (even though I'm money saving) . I know some would think I'm vain but to me I'm not hurting anyone (except myself I guess!) .
Anyone know exactly how much Botox costs?0 -
good morning :hello:
consultant for hitting the SW drum again .. and again ...
but i am with you on that one- it works for me [mumbles] if i stick to it [mumbles] :T
we had fajitas yday for dinner [yuMMy] - besides the tortillas free on red :T
and no sweets with the tv afterwards
today we are having potato gulash so all green! (and loads of it)
lunch will be ... ... don't know yet! THAT's my downfall. i never know what to do for lunch and then i have silly things(probably potato with leftover tuna)
here's hoping for a very good day ... for everyone:T
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work0
