What a lot of post in the last 24 hours it must be all those new members.
Very interesting discussion about diets for someone who has never followed one and have only since joining here actually understood what they are all about. I only have about 1st to loose so I just cut out the junk and eat sensible home cooked food. I like the idea of the SW diet, a friend of mine used it to great sucess he was a big bloke who needed to loose lots but also had a family to cook for.
I have just got a slowcooker and it is great so thank you all for going on about it. It was my second attempt yesterday and it was not a total success. I fried the lamb and veg the night before for an Irish Stew then kept it cold in the stock overnight. I then put it on low from cold for 12 hours but the potatoes where not cooked really. Did I do wrong? Is it important that the stock is hot when you start? How long to do usually cook things for?
Catmeister good luck wiht yours they are great just learning to use mine.
Had a long day in the car yesterday and ended up spending 3 hours in a shopping chentre to kill time. Resisted all the donuts, cakes and cookies but had 1/2 bottle of wine last night. I am now over my own allowance of 7 glasses a week by 3 and it is only Friday.
This is getting too long so take care all, working from home so might pop back again.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Hi TallGirl. As you know I'm working to a lager allowance much the same as you are with the wine.
What I do however is have my starting day on a Friday. That way if I use up the allowance at the weekend. I just have to wait until the next Friday. I find it much easier to avoid temptation on weekdays.
Sorry to bring up SW again. As all the classes around here are at lunchtimes I can't get to them, so I was thinking of trying the online body optimising thing. Anyone on here tried it? I suppose it might be worth just joining for the initial period, to get all the books and magazines and stuff.0 -
Edimew what a fab idea, that would work much better for me. I think I will do that starting today even if it is cheating but at least I can start a fresh.
By the way do you want to run a bit of a challenge: see who does best starting today? I bet you I can manage on 7 glasses of wine next week and no crisps or nuts. Are you on?Save £12k in 25 No 49

Hi another question from me (sorry!) going to join either WW or SW on Monday as they run a club near me on those days (fed up of doing it alone, being hungry and loosing nothing!) so went on SW and WW websites and SW comes up trumps as it deals with diabetics like me and has freedom foods but then everyone I talk to says no no no go to WW so WHICH ONE?!!!!!!! xxx0

Hi Edimew - I'm going to do the 7 day trial starting Mon - will do the full works in assessing how good it is - measuring waist, weight etc and then decide on whether to join as I like you can't make the classes - fancy doing it with me?
They have got alternative recipes with syn counts if you don't like what they suggest - assuming all the meals listed on their trial are syn free they also have the syn value of a few popular foods and drinks to jazz it up if need be...If you don't have anything nice (or constructive) to say... DON'T SAY IT!0 -
Oops sorry Tallgirl didn't refresh my screen so missed you! Are you doing the 7 day menu? Be really interesting to compare results!
Victory, why don't you go to a class of both and see how both plans sit with you, and what the consultants are like? At the end of the day, different diets are going to work for different people; the important thing is to find something you can stick to, and a class which is welcoming and which has a fab consultant, so providing lots of motivation :-)If you don't have anything nice (or constructive) to say... Hi Catmeister, just looked at the SW 7day menu and it does look good but I don't think I can commit to Sw right now. My 7 day plan is to only drink 7 glasses of wine a week - not quite the same.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Tallgirl you sticking to 7 glasses of wine while I stick to 7 pints doesn't really seem fair on you , but why not? It's going to be tricky this week as I'm meeting a friend on Monday night and he's very fond a pint. That's my problem ,too many male, pint drinking friends. All skinny I might add. Still I know it's coming, so I'll just have to plan ahead won't I?
Catmeister Good luck with the trial. Hopefully it'll be the one for you.
What I'm after is access to the whole database of syns healthy extras and free foods so I can plan my own menus. I could probably build up my own database from the magazines, but was just wondering if anyone had used the online thingy and whether it was good value for money.0 -

I would agree with this.
Some of the consultants can be inspirational, so that might influence your decision.
Personally I think any class is better than no class.
I read somewhere that you are 3 times more likely to suceed going to a class rather than dieting on your own and I totally agree.
I don't follow the RC diet to the letter but going to the class and seeing some of the people (some of whom I've seen loose 3 stone) motivates me to carry on whether it's a good week or a bad week.0
