You can use either, both are just as good, however, NXEC might not be around come July;

A couple of weeks ago I travelled from London-Cardiff for the day. I could not use my Network railcard for the through booking so decided to split the fares at Reading (the last station within the boundary on any of the trains I was likely to catch). This meant a saving on part of the fare (London-Reading). However I could not get an 'off peak day' return from Reading to Cardiff as no such fare exists only an 'off peak' return. But by splitting that part of the journey at Swindon I discovered that an 'off peak day' return is available from Swindon to Cardiff. I saved about £20 per ticket by this method and worth investigating just for Reading - Cardiff or the whole journey even without a Network railcard.0

1) You can't book via Nationalrail therefore you can't use either
2) If NXEC goes, then there won't be anyone running direct trains to Edinburgh except the odd one by Virgin & the overnight sleeper train0 -

Nice Split and a Nice saving well done :Talanrowell wrote:2) If NXEC goes, then there won't be anyone running direct trains to Edinburgh except the odd one by Virgin & the overnight sleeper train
The East coast line franchise will be offered to another company at a reduced cost, two train operating companies come to mind 'Arriva' or 'Virgin' but as 'Virgin' runs the West Coast franchise I doubt that they would be allowed to run the east coast, at the worst renationalised but the trains will still runWhoa! [/quote SAVE £52.50 ON THIS TRIP. I have used this route on more than one occasion and it is still valid. I have just priced up this route for next Monday morning 9th Feb. 2009 around 09.10hrs from Southampton General to Llandudno Junction. You are offered various routes, - eg. via B'ham., London or Wolverhampton etc. to arrive at Llandudno Jct around 15.15hrs. The advance price quoted is £86.50. If you book two tickets in advance, travelling from Southampton to Newport Gwent the fare is £13.00, ( It used to be £9.00 ), on the 09.10hrs, arrives Newport at 11.25hrs, and then DEP Newport at 11.34hrs to Llandudno Junction the fare is £21.00. Fare Total £34.00. SAVING £52.50 You leave Southampton at the same time as the more expensive fare AND you still arrive in Llandudno Junction at the same time around 15.14hrs. THIS IS AN AMAZING SAVING FOR JUST CHANGING AT NEWPORT. PS There is also a later train from Soton - Newport for a tenner, but I am unsure of all the connections North.0 -

That's not the advance price - it's the walk on fare available on the day.
But a good split nevertheless.
If you are very lucky advance singles for the complete journey start at £17 each way - I suspect the split ones are easier to come by though.0 -
I catch the commuter train in to London from Huntingdon, which usually costs around £35 return!
However if I split my trip it ends up only costing me a tenner!
Huntingdon to Stevenage - £10.50
Finsbury to London - £2
Total savings - £23
£10 is about what the trip is really worth...more importantly its about what Im prepared to pay for the level of service I get in return.
Dont ask silly questions and you wont get a silly reply

Thats if you split your trip AND travel from Stevenage to Finsbury (Park) without a ticket by the look of it.
And how do you get a return ticket for £2 from Finsbury (Park??) to london??0 -
Any one else having problems getting to this site? Thanks.0
