Your just a little bit to early for the cheap tickets as there only released up to the 15th April so far

use this website to checking when the cheap tickets are released then you will get your tickets for £18.90 (2 adults 1 child F&F) one way.

Should be this week or next week, keep checking the date of First Great western

  • Hi, first time I've looked at this option and I have a very stupid beginners question - I want to book from Birmingham to Edinburgh and I can save big chunk by splitting at preston. The thing is, can I book it for the same train (i.e. not get off)? and has anyone ever done this on the day?

Thanks in adavance for your help

The answer to your question is Yes you can stay on the same train, the only issue will be if you had 'Advance' tickets you would have to change seats to you new reserved seats as somebody get on at Preston would normally be allocated your old seats.

  • Hi

I found this site today. It requires a 597kB download and it installs one of the Microsoft .NET Frameworks, but other than taking the time to do that the resulting program seems to work quite well.

It does have some limitations; it cannot quote including Railcards. Other than that it produces a route of the journey, station by staion and the various Return, SIngle and combinations of fares.

It produced nothing that I had not already found on the Crawley - Christchurch route and I was not over-impressed with fares shown for the Crawley-Inverness or Crawley-Allens West routes. Perhaps there are few reductions on those two routes.

However, the Crawley-Swansea route produced some startling fare reductions, including one for a split that I had never thought of.

    Hope this helps - David

advance of travel, fares start at £12 one way

The NXEC website tells you when cheaper tickets become available so you don't need to look at the national rail website - but like it, it is not guaranteed that the cheapest tickets will be immediately available on that date
