Yes - BUT first of all check there are no cheap advance singles available for the whole journey. If there are then they are likely to be cheaper than splitting the normal fare.0 -
Taunton to Cardiff day return-normally about £27.
Split ticket at Bristol Temple Meads and it about £18.0 -
Hi, I'm hoping somebody might be able to help me.
I need to travel down to London from Manchester on Wed 23rd. I've been looking into all the different options, but to be honest not having much luck. (don't really travel on trains often so find all the different tickets a bit confusing)
If anyone would be able to give me any advice I'd really appreciate it.
The details are Manchester to London (preferablly victoria) arrive by 11.00am
Returning same day any time after 15.00pm
Cheers0 -
Looking at the Virgin websites best fare seems to be £53 return if you absolutely have to be in London before 11 or £35 return if you could arrive London Euston as late as 1130. The first fare is on their Virgin value website pages and the return sector which accounts for £9 of the fare is on their special "cheapie offer" of seats FROM £1 and Print Your Own Ticket.....(you can find link to that website on MSE).
Hope that helps though someone might be able to identify something better of course. Good Luck....
ps: Cross Country Trains also have a route from Manchester to London (Kensington Olympia or West Brompton (both close to Victoria).Worth checking what if anything they can offer)..Hi, I'm hoping somebody might be able to help me.

Anyone know - can I split a ticket TWICE???
I need to go from London to Gretna Green - this involves a change at Carlisle.
The long train stops at Preston, so I can split the ticket there. Can I also split between Preston & Gretna Green AT Carlisle (since we have to actually change trains there anyway)? This means 3 different single tickets for 1 journey.
This makes the return ticket down from £57.55 on a young person's to £30.10 with splits & buying singles (10.90 + 4.60 + 2.40; then 12.20 on the way home). Just want to know if this legal - can't see why not, since we are actually changing trains at Carisle, so buying a separate ticket for that journey (Carlisle to Gretna Green) should be legit.
Thanks!! Also good for anyone else needing to get to Carlisle or Gretna that splitting at Preston DOES work, but it's the only station the train calls at, so not much flex room for splitting.
(P.S. All prices above are with Young Person's Railcard, sorry.)
PPS. Never mind the question, just re-read Martin's article - it IS legal to split more than once, durrrrr. Anyway, use this example as a successful split then! Down about 26 quid from the original £57 to 31 - probably rough same proportions without the YP railcard.top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne
would like to win a holiday, please!!
:xmassmile Mummy to Finn - 12/09; Micah - 08/12! :j0 -
I am looking to travel Abergavenny to Liverpool non peak time, I think my best option is to travel Abergavenny to Crewe and then Crewe Liverpool, does anyone have any other suggestions for a cheap ticket, I think I can save about £20 by splitting, would like to know other views.0
