On London suburban journeys such as this there aren't any. The whole journey and all parts of it are priced by the same company which makes it unlikely.
The only thing I can think of is to buy advance singles to/from somewhere beyond London and only use the London/Ramsgate bit. Against the T&C but undetectable. Coventry might be a possibility - fares start at £8 each way0 -
Hi,
Can anyone help me find the cheapest fare? I need to travel from Glasgow to Cambridge on 31st August and return on 3rd September (both journeys starting in the afternoon).
I've tried following the split ticketing suggestions but when I add up all the tickets I just end up with the same price or more for whole journey. I'm starting to wonder if this split ticketing loophole has been closed by the train companies....
Any assistance greatly appreciated.0 -
Consider flying with Easyjet instead
I note that there's a £16 from Peterborough to Glasgow on the 3rd @ 18:17
Also check the prices of Megabus to Edinburgh then train from there0 -
£54.50 out, £18.55 back using advance singles - but the return journey is in the morning, earlier than you want. In the afternoon it's £54.50 as well.
Split ticketing is not a panacea - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Where it works it is because different train companies are pricing different sections of the journey, not because of any real loophole. Or where advance singles for partial journeys have sold slower than through ones.
For example Cheltenham to Exeter is priced by Cross Country who run (nearly?) all the through trains. However the local sections Cheltenham to Bristol and Bristol to Exeter are both priced by Great Western who run local services. So it's cheaper to split at Bristol. Except when Cross Country have good advance fares - rare these days.
Your journey is mainly National Express East Coast so splitting is unlikely to work other than possibly doing part of the journey at peak fares and the rest at off peak. One company isn't going to shoot itself in the foot. Two might.0 -

At the times you want, £56.58 return. Per person. Checked baggage extra.
An Offpeak Return train ticket Cambridge-StansteadAirport = £11.100 -
Hi Everyone,
Thanks all for the advice.
Unfortunately flying isn't an option for me.
I did try the train to/from Edinburgh but it worked out about the same price.
I'll look into the £16 ticket from Peterborough to Glasgow - thanks for that.
The cheapest I've found so far is Glasgow to Milton Keynes (approx £34 each way) then the express coach from Milton Keynes to Cambridge (approx £11 return) saving about £20-ish pounds.0 -
I've found 1 for Glasgow-Cambridge on the dates you specified using advance singles each way from nationalexpresseastcoast.com
31 August
1500 Glasgow Queen St-Edinburgh
1600 Edinburgh-Peterborough
2018 Peterborough-Cambridge
£48.05 advance single with online discount
03 September
1233 Cambridge-Ely
1258 Ely-Peterborough
1346 Peterborough-Glasgow Central
£32.95 advance single with online discount
Total fare £81.00
super off peak return via not london £108.30
saving £27.30
put the above journey into website as from glasgow central even though it is from queen street.0 -
Hi
Need to travel to Reading to Newcastle on Sat 15th Aug to arrive around 3 - 4 pm. Cheapest return I've found is £51 direct (Cross Country?) coming back on the Sunday. Can anyone get this lower, I keep trying but can't seem to get it down. 2 will be travelling.0 -

If that's £51 for the two of you it's a bargain. Don't waste time looking any further - snap it up before it's gone.
Even each it's not too bad.0
