When I travel by train to Sheffield on a saturday to go and watch the Owls, I buy a day return to Stockport on the train (no station at Church Stretton) then I get a day return from Stockport to Sheffield when I arrive at Stockport. Saves me £s.
Probably applies to travelling to Sheffield from other stations on the Manchester to Cardiff line eg Shrewsbury, Hereford, Abergavenny etc.0 -
Little known fact for residents of Beds and Herts if you have a council issued bus pass ie OAP's disabled etc then you can get 50% of train tickets in Herts and beds if travelling further ie London then tickets need to be split in order to get the discount.0

Anyone got any bright ideas on reducing the cost of train travel between Southampton Airport Parkway and London??

A superoffpeak day return is £20.35.
For £22.70 you can include a London travelcard as well - that's less than the cost of one tube ticket extra.
Both prices are assuming a network railcard and tickets can be bought on the day
Megatrain might be cheaper - but you'd have to go to Southampton Central to get it. Officially anyway.0 -
Hello. I'm trying find the cheapest way of getting from Aberdeen to Swansea by rail. Details of trip as follows:
Outward : Wednesday 19th August
Return : Monday 24th August
Planned on splitting the trip as follows:
Outward
19/08 Aberdeen to Glasgow (leaving Aberdeen at around 9am)
19/08 Glasgow to Manchester
(Overnight stay in Manchester)
20/08 Manchester to Swansea
Return
Swansea to Manchester (leaving Swansea at around 10am)
Manchester to Glasgow
Glasgow to Aberdeen
If anyone has any thoughts, please let me know. I've looked into flights but can't find a way of doing this return for less than £140. Preferably wanted to spend about £100 max.
I'm going to the Green Man festival in Wales so this is what the trip is for (in case you were wondering....)
Thanks in advance!

Hi - I am looking for train from Harrogate to London on Fri 23rd Oct and return Sunday 25th. I usually travel with National Express, but they have been slowly edging prices up and now the advance for 2 people is £56 thats 2 singles each way - is there a cheaper way?
Thanks0 -
The cost should be £52 with the online discount at National Express East coast, but there won't be many trains available at that price given its Friday and Sunday. The advance tickets should be released this week.0

Sorry, yes, thats a typo - 26 quid each way for the two of us.0
