If this becomes the Tesco policy I think they will see a drop in profits. A weekly shop costs many pound more at Tescos than Morrisons. Ok the staff are nicer the stores are nicer but at the end of the day if that price gap cannot be bridged by using a reasonable amount of valid vouchers then I for one will have to return to Morrisons. Seems a little petty to me as at the end of the Mr T will simply pass the vouchers back for redemption. I for one hope the op has just been unlucky.

I couldn't agree more. I always shop at Tescos because of the coupons. I can't say they are dearer than Morrisons because I don't shop there however if I pop into Home Bargain/ Netto/ Aldi and other shops locally I can easily shave off 25-40% off my shop - ON NAMED GOODS. Add to that Iceland and their frozen stuff they are often a lot cheaper too. So Tesco are making a fair bit. Take into account Tesco can redeem most of their coupons they are on to a winner.

Without the coups I'll do very little Tesco shopping except online when they give some good codes.

Welshie - do you live right above a Tesco or something? heh... how do you get there so often?

Anyway, my local Tesco has been saying "one non-purchased item coupon per shop" for the last few weeks now, even the young male SAs are saying it so it must have been communicated well.

The best I can think of is to split up shops into two, I plan on splitting them up with the wife.

Also, it means that newspapers are only going to be worth it for high value vouchers instead of the low ones.

It's a sad day, but like someone else said, it was bound to happen. I was shocked to find out that you could use coupons in the UK without buying items, it's not like that anywhere else I'm aware of (definitely not the US)!
  • Hiya alchemista on the drive to my office I pass 3 Tescos, 10 mins from my office I have another huge Tesco, 5 mins walk from my office I have a Tesco express (which has just installed the self-scanner) oh and on the drive home I again pass a Asdas, a Morrisons and 3 Tescos.

Lots of Tescoing opportunity there !!! I think as always voucher acceptance will be down to the person on the till scanning the vouchers.

They don't all sing from the same hymn sheet and until they do it will always be inconsistent.

At my Tescomic today they happily took vouchers ... I even had an Andrex one that I had printed myself .... I cannot normally print vouchers as I have an Apple iMac and apparently I have an "unsupported platform" ....;) sounds a little wobbly! ... a wonderful boon really as I therefore get almost all via post printed for me by CouponStar ... which Tescons readily accept

Anyway ... I only normally use these if I buy Andrex ... which I do when they have the 9+3 packs which makes it with the coupon cheaper than softy own brand ... although not cheaper than sca- -ry value ....

I digress but when my cashier asked another if they could accept 'internet' coupons she said that previously they had been told not to accept them ... but had now been told they could ....

As others have already said some stores have clamp downs ... customer spends will be down in January so some are likely girding their loins .... I believe if and/or when Tescomic decides to decline coupons we will all know very quickly .....

  • I used coupons today without any problems. Usually these "new policies" turn out to be cashiers getting arsey about you saving money off your shopping bill.

I have heard all of Tescomics policies by now. They do not seem to be coming up with any new rules about coupons that I have not heard before. When and if it all ends in a no coupon unless you puchase rule it will confuse their own clubcard voucher redemptions.Till spits will hold up the tills also as these do not always co incide with purchases.

Tesco know only too well that most coupons are credited by the product manufacterers.I know for a fact that there are arrangements for credits of redeemed coupons at the precise moment the tills credit the customer.

Manufacturers know what is happening but as Tesco hold a large share of their sales a reluctant blind eye is used.

The redemption rate of coupons issued/printed is around 3% .

Big T know you are getting cash off your shop and it is not them paying.

Tesco policy of accepting other stores coupons is to match their bargains. These are thrown out and no credit allowed.Tesco have other stores policy according to geographic locations where rivals operate.

Am I missing something? You don't buy the product, and you don't get the money off ....what's the problem? Or am I being naive?

Six Tescos visited today and all of them are still accepting coupons. Even one where I know the guy who served me is difficult.

Had one coupon refused in T's today due to the extremely complicated wording on my coupon, "Valid until 31st March 2007".

Fear not, this was no policy change at my store, this was due to the checkout girl having the IQ of a dsylexic wombat; here is her reasoning...

"Valid until 31st March 2007" means it's valid from 31st March 2007... :wall:

    Stupid eejit
