Do you leave lights on overnight?

I don't leave any lights on but sleep with the curtains open and have recently been told that this could cause poor quality sleep and also be linked to health problems. Some info here. Given that it never gets properly dark round here I guess I'm going to have to sort out blinds and get used to being in the dark.
Plug in night lights are generally cheaper to run than bulbs and are usually light sensitive so go on and off as needed. If you really need one in the hallway or landing for children they're probably the most energy efficient option (just check carefully when choosing).0 -
No we never leave lights on.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

When the kids were young I used to leave the bathroom light on in case they needed the loo, it threw enough light onto the landing so they could see but not so much that we couldn't sleep. Now the kids have grown up I have all the lights off, I can't sleep unless it's dark I even have blackout linings on the bedroom curtains.Dum Spiro Spero0

I'll join you in that.
(I originally just wrote "me too" but apparently that isn't a long enough message to post.)0 -
Second to chip pans washing machines were the most common appliance to cause house fires in our area 2009. The local fire service recommend no washing machine, dryer or dishwasher be left to run while you are out or in bed. The risk is down to the high wattage and motor speed/friction. A member of this forum I'm aware posted about a house fire caused by one.
I wasn't really aware of how much of a risk until we had an in house fire safety assessment by the local fire serviceOne day I might be more organised...........

I was quite shocked at how much the money went from the meter, so now I just leave all lights off...This is really interesting to know, because I pay my bill quarterly I had no way of realising how much the lights would run up the billIn my conservatory I have a couple of those little solar ornaments from the pound shop, they sit inside on the window ledge facing inward and they shine right into my living room.0

I've got a low calorie PIR lamp in the socket on the landing - I swear the dog activates it deliberately sometimes! Otherwise I just switch on the bedside lamp if I need the loo - the bathroom is opposite my bedroom so it's light enough to find my way in and once on the loo I can manage in the dark!I want my sun-drenched, wind-swept Ingrid Bergman kiss, Not in the next life, I want it in this, I want it in this
Use your imagination, or you can borrow mine!0 -
I have a 'dusk to dawn' outside light with a 'low energy bulb' inside.
This give some reassurance to be able to see out on my patio garden and some glow into a room or 2.
Also I have an electronic light switch in one room, I hate coming home to a dark property and it aids security.0 -
Outside the front door stays on all night. I would turn it off, but that would involve climbing behind the TV to reach underneath the fusebox, where for some inexplicable reason, they have decided to put the switch.
However, I never have the light on if I get up during the night. Having rubbish eyesight but good hearing, I tend to manage better in pitch black than anyone else does in dimly lit places, as I can hear changes in sound to indicate where I am in the house, plus the change of textures under my bare feet.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Just imagine the use of resources by people keeping lights on overnight across the country. Never mind leaving the TV on standby, that's nothing compared to this!
If you really must leave a light on for fear of peeing in the wardrobe and not the loo, get some plug in LED ground lighting.0
