Do you leave lights on overnight?

No lights on for us in the night. I wander around in the dark if I get up, it's surprising how much you can see. In the evening we try to always switch a light off as we leave whatever room we've been in and often sit in the dark if we're watching TV or on the computer. My DD is a teen and is gradually getting better though if we're out every light is blazing when we return...I think it's a bit of a nervy being on your own in the house thing for her. If she has friends staying and they're getting in late we don't even leave lights on for them now..they're quieter if it's dark..implies we're actually sleeping and don't live their same nocturnal life that all teens seem to lead...Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)

I am on economy 7, not my choice we share an electric supply with the neighbour, so this presumably cuts the cost of the light on over night.
I either put the washing machine on when going out to work or, more often now I have a timer, overnight. I am not aware of it being a fire risk. By definition it does have a water supply going into it.0 -
Our street lights have recently started going out from 12:00 until 06:00 which is great as before one shone in our bedroom window.
I like it dark to sleep and believe health wise it is better for you. I also insist on no 'white noise' in bedrooms so unplug cd players, laptops, chargers etc - family love me!
We live next door to a Rabbi and from Friday before sunset they turn on every light in the house and leave them on until sunset on Saturday. I wonder how they and their 4 children find it to sleep - I guess they are used to it.The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
When it's just us here, or us plus DS we never leave lights on overnight. However if there are other people staying we generally leave the downstairs hall light on which gives enough light for folks to see where they are if they need the bathroom. Saves taking a wrong turning and falling down the stairs! All bulbs here are low-energy. We also have blackout blinds in all the bedrooms so to avoid tripping over our dear dogs I usually grab my mobile phone to light my way to the loo at night!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
Only by mistake! sometimes we've forgotten to turn off one of the downstairs lights . No, we don't leave any lights on all night, apart from dd's nightlight.0

No lights on, though we are considering some decorative solar out door lights.
We've lived in our house for a year. for the first couple of weeks we turned the lights on to go to the loo, now we know the way, and resuming there is no obstruction we don't need the light, to the door, right, straight ahead, right again!
Never had lights on as a child either.
The only thing I'd say is that I think I'm particularly sensitive to light pollution. I hate it. We live in the country side but feel the light pullution from the county town some four miles away, and from the village which is closer. I hate it, hate it, hate it.0 -
no we just turn on if we need too, though i think after 6 1/2 years of night feeds im getting so good i can get to kitchen without one and make up a bottle with light from microwave now lolHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

No, we don't leave any lights on either. But we don't have any little ones.
TBH I agree that your eyes adjust to the dark very fast - especially if you just woken up to go to the toilet (don't have to get used to dark from light, but from sleep). I think putting a light on to go would completely wake me up and hurt my eyes for a second.0 -
We don't leave any lights on, but we do sleep with the TV on!Total Debt at LBM - £19107.03Total now - £11091.220

No I never leave lights on over night - I have almost a pathalogical hate of light at night as it effects my sleep. I'd have blackout blinds and curtains and still moan about streetlight if I could:o
I do in the midst of winter when DH is away have a timer on the main living room light...its an expensive one that comes on at different times etc just so I am not walking into a dark house. It also times itself off too.
My sister is a Police officer and she was once told by a burglar the worst light to leave on is a hallway light as its almost an invite to a burglar.....cos no one ever sits in the hallway!!!;)
I never leave outside lights on either for green reasons and cos I work on the principle its as likely to help the burglar with light than hinder them. Can I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising
