  • I back on to woods and I do leave the living room light on( very low) and the kitchen one so anyone looking wouldn't be sure if someone was up or not. Its purely a feeling of security for me.

  • Nope!

Why do you need a light on in the bathroom - can you not turn it on if you need to go?

I understand people with wee kids (you can get brilliant low-energy plugs that give out a faint orange flow so it's not pitch black) and for the dog if it upsets him but apart from that .....

If you really want to leave one on in the hall - do you need to leave 3 on!

Would the one at the front door not provide a little light for the hall?

I've got an upright light in my hall with a 4 watt low energy bulb - it's on a timer so comes on just before I get up in the winter and mid afternoon (my dog also hates being left in the house alone in the dark).

The only reason it's on before I get up is that I can't turn the downstairs lights on from upstairs (whoever built these houses wants shot) and the stairs are in complete darkness = dangerous, without it.

Would seem an easy way to cut the bills a bit.....

I prefer total darkness and no wasted electricity costs so its lights all off here apart from the annoying street lamp right outside my bedroom window which I guess I am also paying for.
  • If myself or my son are last to bed, the landing light stays on, if it's my daughter then she turns it off because she says she finds it harder to go to sleep with it on. It's an energy saving bulb though. I've just had to start leaving the kitchen light on for my ancient dog as she's taken to getting spooked and going bonkers barking at the slightest thing if I don't, and waking everybody up. It's a flourescent strip light in the kitchen and probably costs and arm and a leg to have on all the time!

I always thought you are more likely to get burgled during the day? That's the most time houses are empty with folk at work all day.

  • I live on my own and although I get a bit scared on a night time I cant leave a light on as I love it dark, I also have my bedroom door closed, so if someone were to break in, it would be too late for me to do anything anyway ha...

When I have gone away overnight I have left the landing light on, its an energy saving bulb, and I have found that that drains my electric.. I am on a key meter so I noticed the use that just having that on, as well as the fridge/freezer.. I was quite shocked at how much the money went from the meter, so now I just leave all lights off...

(sorry for rambling on, I've not been up long haha)

WASHING MACHINE - unless your on economy 7 & use it after midnight washing then is no cheaper than in the middle of the day. Washing machine are also a fire risk

No lights on at home and regularly sit in the dark too, I get headaches from too much light. Kids can reach the light pulls

Leaving regula or timed lights on - burglars ain't daft
One day I might be more organised...........

One on the stairs as no light gets to them(window but no street lamp near) and rooms are split across two floors with the bathroom on one.

I leave the bathroom light on (energey saving bulb). I don't like the place totally dark & where I live there aren't many street lights. So its there for me & the kids.
