Do You Think That Cyclists Should be Insured and Registered On Roads, I do

Why?
because if the cyclist hits someone crossing they are not insured and can ride off into the blue yonder and no one can trace them?
The amount of cyclists that just go over crossings on red when people are actually crossing it to. They just dont care at all and have no consideration for pedestrians. They go over red lights as well. They seem to think that the rules of the road dont apply to them. Maybe they would think twice if they were registered.
Even disabled people in those cart things have to be registered I believe. so why shouldn't a cyclist be registered then? Even if they had a special number or something and the bike registered in their name as well and a low insurance or something.
The amount of times I have been crossing when cyclists have nearly hit me. It makes me really mad. They just ride off and dont even say sorry or nothing. One actually clipped me once and just rode off.
What do you think people? dont you think they should be insured and registered if being on the road?
how would you enforce the insurance?
how would you run the registration system?
would this be retrospective for every bike in the UK?
would you be introducing MOTs for bikes?
how would you handle change of ownership and those of us who build our own bikes?
what about bikes used off road?
bikes used exclusively on cycle paths?
how do you define low insurance & who provides it?0 -
I'm insured.
It didn't help the two pedestrians I hit, on separate occasions, when they crossed on a red man, I told them to look next time and cycled off to catch my train.
I love hearing ooh cyclists jump red lights they are the devil reincarnated but not many people come on here and say oh the other day I was waiting to cross when some dumb !!!! with his iphone of invincibility stepped out in front of someone trying to get home.0 -

You only missed one off your list.;)0 -
Get stuffed ,insurance for cyclists, what else will we have to have in this backward nanny state .
You are the back ward one. you drive on the road and pay like the rest of us. If you have accident, then you got no insurance for yourself either.
where as if you had this, even if you say broke your arm or leg, you could then claim for yourself to the time it left you not being able to work.0 -

I agree with you that some times pedestrians are in the wrong and jump across lights when traffic starts moving on red etc. But at least you bothered to get insurance for yourself which proves you have common sense really.
Unlike person below who told me to get stuffed and with people like that on your side, who needs enemies, cause all this person is doing is making it worse for cyclists and giving out a kind of hatred towards them. When all I was doing was suggesting it for both parties really.
As for the I pod phone things, yes they are pretty stupid with their head phones crossing and jay walking, which is why I never wear that stuff. So really the deserve what they get because of their own stupidity.0 -

What other party did you suggest should have insurance?0 -
So you saw him cross the stop line with the lights on red?
Yet you still stepped in front of him.
Did you carer have the day off?
you get stuffed. and grow up. Does your Mum let you use her new computer then. You make it really bad for other cyclists you know, that are trying to defend their positions honourably. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, look it up.0 -
How about purchases of bicycles have a cycle tax on them say £100 that goes towards a fund for creating cycle lanes and creating cycle insurance for pedestrians injured by cyclists.0

How would that work then?
You crash your car and injure yourself, if it's your fault you do not have a claim. How would this work for cyclists?0
