where as if you had this, even if you say broke your arm or leg, you could then claim for yourself to the time it left you not being able to work.
you may think that
however in practice it not often so simple0 -

So what type of insurance is it that you want cyclists to have? Liability to third parties, or personal accident?0 -
I will make this very clear and once only as to my opinion. I will not take !!!! from no one, or sarcasm, if you cant discuss things adult manner and properly without being abusive then dont discuss at all. To those who have been sarcastic. It seems to me that you want your cake and eat it to really. You are the ones who are very backwards. It would not just be for our use but your own to.
If you have insurance and hurt yourselves badly, you can them claim for the weeks it puts you out of work or whatever. and if your bike is beyond repair, the insurance could give you money for a new one. If a RTA and both parties can claim.
Oh my bike is damaged, I cant afford a new one now. the train is miles away and the bus etc. how will I get to work. No insurance, tough! Even if you went down a bad pot hole or something, you could claim your insurance as trying to get it from the council or whoever owns that road would take you forever really. Those bikes can go pretty fast now as well.
I was trying to be helpful and giving my opinion. so telling me to get stuffed and being insultive really shows your true colours. and if this is how you carry on here, god knows how you are on the roads, if you dont give a stuff for no other road users or pedestrians accept your bloody selves.
thats all I have to say really, unless you have constructive stuff to say other then get stuffed. dont bother.0 -

But that's not how insurance works.
You are starting to make yourself look even more stupid each time you post.
I'd give up now if I were you.0 -
I know quite a few cyclists who have already obtained third party insurance -via CTC for example. Given the terrible standards of driving and lack of care from other road users then its probably sensible to have some form of legal respresentation available to defent cyclists.
RLJ is a not something most cyclists condone, indeed if you were to load at the cycling boards you might appreciate how we do not all want to be tarred with the same brush.
Usually its not the cyclists causing the problem but :
1) Pedestrians not paying attention, crossing the road anywhere but on a proper crossing - "they" should introduce a jaywalking law to prevent such stupididy. How would a driver or other road user feel if they injured somebody through that person attempting to cross the road without sufficient consideration of the road and surrounding events.
2) the poor standard of drivers, leaving insufficient space when overtaking is one of the biggest problems, just so a driver can get there 5 seconds faster.
If it weren't for the other economic effects I'd say ban cars for any journey under 5 miles
As custardy and woody said a registration process is however a waste of time. Better to educate drivers and perdestrains to "think cycle"0 -
So it's ok to step in front of one then?0

why are you still posting and not answering my points?
I dont think you need to explain to us how personal insurance would work
however given I have more than one bike, numerous spares,2 cars and pair of working legs
me getting to work is my look out
why would the state force me to have insurance for my look out?
car drivers arent required to have that much cover0 -

I saw a cyclist die a couple of months ago, because he raced out in front of a truck. He was laying dead in the road. So before you jump red lights think of your family.
As do I
however thats little defence to the daily attempts on my life from drivers0 -
I'm all for less regulation, but the cycling brigade have essentially drawn their own short straws by their actions.
Let's face it - the MAJORITY of cyclists jump red lights. The MINORITY of motorists do the same. Whilst we're shaking cyclists let's include the mobility scooter brigade into the registration/insurance debacle. The man without a signature.0 -
Ladywriter,
Seeing as your still here, insurance doesn't work that way0
