did you also see others opinions on the site to, some said it was car drivers fault and others said the cyclist fault. So matter of opinion really. some said the cyclist was going to fast but others said the car should not have pulled out at the roundabout like that. So who is wrong and who is right? neither are right so does that mean they were both in the wrong then?

car driver was wrong all the way into next year! When you post a video on Youtube you ALWAYS get idiots and nay sayers posting utterly stupid comments.

Im not sure how the cyclist was going too fast? a car would approach at 30mph, he was doing far less than that.

At traffic islands you should always give away to vehicles approaching from the right, the driver in that clip either didn't see the cyclist OR arrogantly thought the cyclist should give way due to driving an inferior (smaller) vehicle.

The smaller your vehicle, the worse you get treated on the roads.

I've got a friend who's now in the Police force, 10 years or so ago, he had a woman open her car door into his motorbike, there was no collision, but when he stopped she then sat there shouting "you bloody queue jumper!!!" out of her partly opened window. It's far worse for cyclists because drivers will have overtaken said cyclist a few yards before the traffic and tend to then get very aggressive..... Doors being opened, drivers squeezing the cyclist, misaligned washer jets spraying you in the face, objects thrown from the vehicle, it's all an everyday occurrence for these guys.

If I had to hazard a guesstimate, i'd say that British queuing mentality is the true cause of the vast majority of anger on our roads.

  • I think the OP sounds very unlucky, would be interested to know where she lives.

I cycle every day and have never ever hit a pedestrian, nor have I ever seen anyone hit a pedestrian!

Oh, and I don't jump red lights, some people do, there are careless cyclists just as there as careless drivers but the main difference is the cyclist is unlikely to cause harm to anyone but themselves.

A cyclist killed in north London may have hit an open car door immediately before he was knocked down by a bus, the Metropolitan Police has said.

Drivers go nuts when cyclists give parked cars a wide berth, but this is why they do it.

There's also a video on YT of a cyclist being rammed and knocked off his bike when moving around a parked car.

The cyclist picks on the illegally parked car, but a lot of people think that the Merc driver did that deliberately.

One of the few pleasures left untouched in the UK is being able to ride a bicycle without any other costs except clothing, lights & maintenance.
Lets not keep going down that 'nanny state' path. Okay the norm is to drive a car but for some people thier only means of transport is by bicycle. Especially if they have just come off JSA.
Its the law here in Spain to wear a fluorescent jacket in daylight riding a bike but nobody bothers with that law. However I was stopped by a Guardia Civil policeman a year ago who was rather bored. He told me about the rule even though it was so sunny & bright & hot the information was pointless.

Its all these excessive rules & regulations & bills that are driving people out of the UK. Looking at the UK from outside now - its about the last place I would ever want to visit again.:o

Here's a shocking truth about this thread.....

You could replace "cyclist" with black and this thread wouldn't be out of place 200+ years ago.... It's all about the justfication of hatred toward a minority, WHO are deemed to be less important and who should apparently have less rights (and shouldn't be allowed to overtake those of a higher social class who drive cars).
