Do You Think That Cyclists Should be Insured and Registered On Roads, I do

This is just another cyclist bashing thread. Let's face it motorists will never be happy untill they get the roads all too themselves. Wake up and smell the coffee, it aint going to happen!
Ps. The OP's idea would never work!0 -
Where I live the majority of cyclist's are young men who do go through red lights, don't have lights on their bikes, seem to dress like cat burgler's so you don't have a hope of seeing them and use the pavement and/or the road depending on whether there is something in their way! I notice this as a dog walker who is out 3 times a day and its something I probably see daily. I don't see car drivers driving through red lights often (think I've seen this happen once!)
I do see responsible cyclist's though on my walks, you can usually tell that they will follow the rules of the road as their bikes have lights on and they wear suitable clothing and helmets. They often seem to be older people though. Younger people seem to have little regard for their own life now a days, often just walking into the road in front of cars or whizzing through red lights on bikes. Do they still teach the green cross code at school and run the cycling proficiency?:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Perhaps the OP could provide some statistics as to how many people were killed by cyclists last year, after all that's what that's this is all about, safety?0

Cyclists in Switzerland must buy and display a Velovignette (basically a sticker) each year which registers their bike and includes a third party liability insurance. Until 1989 they had small aluminum registration plates.
However the national parliament has voted to end the system due to the high administration costs and the fact that 90% of cyclists already have a private liability insurance. 2011 is the last year of the Velovignette. There are some concerns that a cyclist who is the victim in a collision will, from 2012, have to go through a more lengthy and bureaucratic process to claim compensation / damages. With the Velovignette it is relatively quick and straightforward.0 -
I think the OP needs to see this before coming to this forum and slandering all cyclists as being red light jumping thugs.....

I saw a cyclist get killed and was dead in the road and it was pretty awful to see. He would still be alive now if he had not have jumped in front of that truck. What about his family as well.0 -

Maybe the car driver should have let the cyclist pass?
Maybe the cyclist should have slowed and gave way at roundabout?
They say give way to the right so looking at that angle the car should have gave way to cyclist then.
So you see I dont always take the side of the motorists.0 -

some
yet you have decided insurance and registration will stop that?
in the video you quoted
where would the insurance and registration save the cyclist if they were going straight ahead?0
