I bet you he is not at fault but without actually buying something from him I can’t prove it. Many sellers have the OPTION to select insurance at check out. I have bought many such items and I just choose not to select this option. Bananabus should have paid for the item including one of the two clearly detailed postage options. He should have ignored or deleted any additional charges.

Bananabus, try paying for the item and postage only and tell us what happens.

More or less ditto to you Julie. I did carefully read what Bananabus wrote and try and understand his point. As someone else posted, Bananabus’s posts are “as clear as ditchwater” and I suspect his understanding of ebay is similarly muddy.

I am not the only one who sees the seller as OK and Bananabus as in the wrong. I think he is just trying to justify getting out of the purchase.

The seller has a 99.6% feedback rating on 16,700 trades on ebay in under two years. One trade in 300 has generated negative feedback. That is a very good ebay track record.

I have 100% feedback on well over 200 trades on ebay so I think I know how to read and write listings properly and how to behave properly and ethically on ebay.:p :D

The thing i didnt want to happen is I take off the extra he tried charging ,Then for him to reply ( chance would be a fine thing!) because i hadn't paid him the amount he was asking.
HE WOULD HAVE MY MONEY the not send the item out!! because of this.
He has not responded to ANY of my messages. So why would he if he had my money!

Yes avoriaz, you are correct that on check out some seller do have an optional insurance, but it can also be set that it includes insurance in final Price.

Whole point of thread is that he doesnt want to pay, because the seller is overcharging him. So like you said you havent bought from this seller, so you cant really comment on his check out page, yet you are doing so.
No, the whole point of the thread is that he doesn’t want to pay because he has bought the item elsewhere.

He has not allowed the seller a reasonable time to respond to emails, especially taking into account the time of year.

He won the item on the 1st January which is a bank holiday. At 1:00 am, shortly after midnight, on 4th January he posts here and says that he has bought the item elsewhere. He presumably bought it on the 2nd or 3rd January.

He had given the seller less than 48 hours to respond to his emails.

Read his first post again. He writes:

“I've now got the item from elsewhere .what do i do now ? i dont need it anymore.”

He is not asking for help and advice to resolve an insurance charge. He is trying to find a way out of the deal.

Like you and everyone else, I comment based on what I read in the thread. I can comment on the check out page based on my own reasonably extensive experience of ebay. If we are all limited to commented on things we had seen personally, the forum would be empty.

I have looked at the sellers ebay feedback. This is excellent and suggests very strongly that he is a professional and fair seller. If he was trying to trick buyers into paying extra insurance, this would be reflected in a much poorer feedback record.

Why did you buy from this seller on 1st January and the next day or the day after buy another identical item?

It is unfortunate that he did not immediately respond to your emails but, bearing in time the time of year, you have given him little chance.

Why did you not pay what you had agreed to pay? This seller has excellent feedback and over 15,000 individual buyers have been satisfied with him.

What is your ebay id so we can all have a look at your track record over five years.

I am well aware of what was said in first post, i am also aware of what was in his other posts, may be worth your while to read all posts before making comments.

The listing states 12.98 or 18.98 and insurance is Included (in the postage and packing cost), but when he went to check out it it asked for anothr 2 for insurance, may or may be optional, but if he states insurance is included then he should not be asking for more money to cover the insurance.

Is january 1st a bank holiday, gosh dont think anybody knew that before you pointed it out. Regardless of the date, if he is willing to sell on jan 1st then he should make himself available to answer any questions about his product, otherwise he should say on clearly say on listings he is either away until a set date or somethin similar to that nature.

As for the sellers feedback, 47 neut and 55 neg out of 15000 is not very good at all.

Regardless of your experience on check out pages, unless you have actually seen this page then you cant say this OP is liying or not, which is what you are implying.

If you think 99.6% feedback on 16,000 sales is “not very good at all”, then in my opinion you have a strange understanding of ebay feedback. Some buyers and sellers give neutral or negative feedback for the most trivial or spurious reasons and it is virtually impossible for even the best volume power seller to avoid a few negatives.

For every 300 trades or so, he has had 298 positive feedbacks, 1 neutral and 1 negative. Personally I would not hesitate to deal with such a trader.

I have not implied that Bananabus is lying, I have suggested that he does not really understand how ebay works and is trying to get out of a deal. His posts demonstrate rather unclear thinking or at least unclear writing. Can we be confident that his emails to the seller were clear?

Buying from ebay is not like buying from a store. You are dealing with someone electronicaly and it is unreasonable to expect every trader to instantly respond to emails. Quite possibly he has gone on holiday and has set in place a mechanism to alert him to all completed payments and arrange despatch but has not been monitoring his emails. If Bananabus had paid, maybe he would have the item already.

This seller’s listing does clearly say

*Sellers are not responsible for delivery time. This information is provided by the carrier and excludes weekends and bank holidays. Note that delivery times may vary, particularly during peak periods.”

I would be fascinated to see Bananabus’s ebay profile. It might or might not shed some interesting light on the situation. If he has nothing to hide, perhaps he should reveal all.:D

If you look at the bottom of that listing it says that Insurance is included. When I set a listing up I can choose if I want people to pay insurance, you can only have one option so maybe this was an eBay glitch.

TBH, for the sake of £2 I would have paid if if I needed it urgently and dealt with it afterwards and not left feedback until the £2 was refunded.

There could be a number of reasons why the seller has not responded. Maybe he is not getting the messages - I have huge problems with mine with NTL being the worst, they do not get through. A lot of sellers will reply when they come inot their inbox and at times I don't get mine. I asked a seller a question on Thursday asking if they would add a BIN, no response, so checked the listing and it has been added so I bought it. Then 2 hours after paying I got a payment request, this morning I got the email from her to say she had added the Buy It Now. I am getting emails anything up to 2 weeks after they have been sent. So, the seller might not have got your emails yet - especially if they do get them in high volume.

In regard to postage costs - we have to pay VAT on our postage even though the postage we buy is zero rated, so if we charge £2 for postage then 17.5% of this goes to the VAT man as our costs include VAT. If you are going to be charged extra it shuld always be stated in the listing. No doubt these people have staff who pack their items so they probably incorporate this cost as well into their P&P charges. Bear this in mind when dealing with a high volume seller, most don't rip people off on postage as they want you to come back and buy from them but there are sometimes other factors like VAT and costs to be added onto P&P costs.

If he cannot respond to me about paying him . It makes me feel that i would have zero chance of getting my money back!!!

When you make the payment through Paypal there is a small section that allows you to make an adjustment so you would also have been able to deduct the £2 from that as well. One of my customers did this just last week when they changed their mind about something they ordered. I think it says adjustments or something and in there you can add money on (if you was buying something extra) or deduct it if you had been overcharged.

You could also Paypal the money to the seller using the 'Pay for eBay items' by logging into your paypal account and by clicking on the 'Pay for eBay items' tab. This would have ensured that your payment got to him for the correct amount and you could have sent a message along with the payment like 'could not get the eBay thing to work so payed this way - user name is ....., please ship by Special Delivery as paid for". As long as you put the item number into the Paypal field where it asks for it then it registers on the sellers account as you having paid for said item.
