  • Hempriggs House, Wick:

    Withdrawn from the market now.

Currently listed for business rates with a rateable value of £33,750
effective from 01-APR-10. The Business Rate for 2012/2013 is 45.0p in the £.

If the property were residential, Highland Council Tax Band G is £1,938.33. (This would be for a property valued at £106k-£212k in 1991). Scottish Water charge for unmetered residential Band G would be £655.95 for mains water and sewage.

This doesnt surprise me - the fact that its been withdrawn.

I'd hazarded a guess that someone from elsewhere in the country - or elsewhere in the world:cool: - would see it on this thread and make a grab for it quick. If you've got that sort of money and value your privacy, then its worth going "Here, have half a million £ and shut up about who the buyer is".

Oh! I posted this one back in July last year (post 5277).

Since then, it has been to auction, but not met its ambitious reserve, and I think it is on with another agent now.
  • Just checked that one out - and have now got that David Bowie song going through my head "This is ground control to Major Tom....". Cant recall the title of it. Guess that means I think that house would do nicely for aliens.

    Like that countryside though.

Not quite sure who the target market for one like that would be.

That Scottish one thats just got withdrawn from auction though - I wouldnt be surprised if its got new owners that shopped for that one earlier this week and will be over in England in the summer shopping in Harrods if you get my drift...I think I know just who would be interested in that one....and pay for it out of pocket money.

Well, if they saw it here, we'd better TELL THEM ABOUT THE MIDGES:eek::eek::eek::eek:
    ......and quickly! :rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl:....translated as "Do make sure you're wearing your headgear - whoops I daresay you will be anyway....particularly if you're a woman....". If only your eyes are on show then there aint gonna be much there for a midge to find to bite....;)

Make that "...and don't forget your thermal underwear"...

I like these two houses nearby..

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-24896652.html?premiumA=true

Looks very dark downstairs and what's with the black coving?

Never match your sofa colour to a plain feature wall..

The bathroom could have been stunning but since when do flowers and seahorses go together? Or blue floral paper with matching cladding with white tiles?

Bright spotty plate propped up against the wall,on the dining room floor.

    The little fire looks ridiculous.

Are those doors really that low and wide?

Generally not bad but just looking at the whiteness of the kitchen is giving me a confusing bright lost in wishy washyness headache!

Wouldn't consider second one due to location & listing, but the first looks good. Nice aspect, but not perfect, now I look again. However, few are.

Perhaps the NE coast is not too bad?

I went to a wedding by a loch embedded in the highlands - brilliant weather and not a midge in sight for the whole 24 hours.

I believe one of the glens imported the Canadian black fly during WW2; now that is really something is you forget the repellant.

    I loved HIPs.

Aren't they supposed to have a PIQ these days?

Can you demand that BEFORE driving 50 miles to find a very dodgy situation.

Last time I did not move (40 years ago) I devised a set of questions combined with a weighting and rating system to remove the phony "wow" factor from the transactions.
The more intelligent sellers would be fascinated to sit and and answer my questions.
    But some got really snotty.
One woman: I spend the best part of an hour showing you my house and then you tell me that the orientation is wrong:mad:
Me: Well if it helps, I now believe that did I want to buy it, you have over priced it by 15%.:D
Thanks John, really helpful stuff there.

Yes I think HIP's were a good idea, pity they didn't make it.

I thought it was John Lennon's house, didn't read the blurb just looked at the pictures.

George Harrison had a much more modest bungalow about 5 miles away, covered with creeper.

The grape vine like creeper was black and rumoured to have been painted on by the occupants.

Picture 4 suggests that you would be a bit overlooked (perhaps it has one way tinted glass?) I've fitted my place with Guardian energy saving glass does not work at night though on outgoing visible light !! - it is very slightly purple - makes watching the bird feeder more fun, especially when feeding the sparrow hawks.

Midges - I lived on the west coast of Scotland, I used to get eaten alive. I must be especially tasty because I have the same problem with mozzies.

SIL lived on the east coast and I was usually ok when I visited.
  • The midges aren't too bad on the east coast, it's the west coast where they're savage :)

It disappeared immediately after the auction last time as well and then popped up a few weeks later somewhere else - Harman Healy I think. I'll keep my ear to the ground anyway.
