Many a true word.......
I lived off Boreham Road in 1973. It wasn't far from that house that a local bigwig, returning drunk from the nearby Conservative Club, couldn't get the key in the door, then fell backwards into his garden pond.
He was spotted next morning, still there, covered in ice. The shock of the cold water had induced a fatal heart attack.
I remember that! The firm is still going though.0 -

Needs more than a few cans of paint to sort this out....
Cans of petrol, perhaps?
You can't deny they've made the best of it though. The occasional picture on the walls, leaving the lights off ...A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Good! Sometimes people seem to think my memories are apocryphal, so it's nice to get confirmation of their authenticity now and again. I think my parents told me, though it may have been when I worked at Strode Components....They aren't still going!
Can't remember when he died, Googling it comes up with nothing so must be before t'internet age, but it must be 35-40 years ago? New years eve, if I remember correctly.
And no, Strode Components (that takes me back) site is now a Lidl's, but I remember making up the cash wages for them when I worked in Nat West bank, happy days!0 -

My parents were in Prestbury Drive till about 1986, but I was at Strode in 1973 when they were in West Street....and it's all a bit of a blur now!
I did hot, dirty work at Strode after university, keeping the machines and floors clean. Being the 70s, no one else would do it, so fellow shift workers never materialised. I could work as long as it took: 10-12 hours being common. I was paid extremely well (in cash...thanks for that!!) and I recall a certain amount of animosity because I wasn't tied to a machine or a shift. I wasn't allowed in the union because I was 'unskilled.' :rotfl:
Stuck it for over 6 months and made a mint. Left when I got the teaching job I was after. As you say, happy days.0 -

...and another one in the bedroom.
Maybe the 2nd one in the sitting room is for the benefit of a pet cat or dog - they get to watch David Attenborough and other wildlife programmes on one tv with the sound off. The vendor watches the programme they want on the other tv.:rotfl:0
