My parents were in Prestbury Drive till about 1986, but I was at Strode in 1973 when they were in West Street....and it's all a bit of a blur now!

I did hot, dirty work at Strode after university, keeping the machines and floors clean. Being the 70s, no one else would do it, so fellow shift workers never materialised. I could work as long as it took: 10-12 hours being common. I was paid extremely well (in cash...thanks for that!!) and I recall a certain amount of animosity because I wasn't tied to a machine or a shift. I wasn't allowed in the union because I was 'unskilled.' :rotfl:

Stuck it for over 6 months and made a mint. Left when I got the teaching job I was after. As you say, happy days. :)

Oh wow, Strode components were always on a plot by the railway station when I was in the bank. . It was from about 1978 ish that I worked in the bank ( we sound so old, lol!)

The curtains reminded me of when I lived in Spain. The Spaniards all had multiple 'layers' in their windows, to keep the sun out. My neighbour had (from the outside in,) a wooden slatted roller blind, fly screen, glass, net curtain, wooden shutters and main curtains :)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Sorry, I meant my folks lived in West Street first, so the story was from their Prestbury Drive days which probably dates it to the '80s.

Old? No one needs to be old on the internet, though some are! ;)

    Looks rather Orwellian!

No sign of human life; everyone indoors watching their screens...though I like the idea of the pets having their own.

Someone else who has no idea what to do taste-wise re a house:rotfl: (but one of us - me - would just think "Rip and neutralise" instead). I can never understand why so many people put one of those inbuilt wine racks in the kitchen - as that just caused me to think "....and the Rip Out would include at least most of the kitchen - that's a shame, as it's quite new".

But then I got to the garden and thought "Heart sink - I could deal with that badly-maintained lawn (:eek:does that mean a dog has been allowed to go to the loo on it?) - but the neighbours row of leylandii behind and so much for "Oh well - just do a Rip Out as per usual"...:(

That could be sorted out in a week by a decorator. Remove all the garish wallpaper and it would be fine. The kitchens and bathrooms are reasonably neutral and the carpets are plain. The room sizes seem quite good.

The garden could be returfed, the pigeon loft removed and a new patio or seating area made to get the furniture off the lawn.

pic 4 - the wall behind the bed appears to be inspired by World War 1 naval dazzle camouflage
pic 5 - useful sign on the wall in case you've forgotten which room you're in
pic 6 - ours is the fury
pic 13 - not sure I want to have a soak in the loo

Why so many pics of the not particularly inspiring rear garden?
