Hate to be that awkward guy, but the 'horders house' in Thirsk is owned by someone I know and her husband died last year. But yeah, I think she is looking to downsize

Might it be the passage that the winding gear from the water wheel (you can see water wheel in Pic 1 I think) came through to turn the mill stones? Or similar for the (now no longer there) wind sails? It would help if you knew if looking vertically or horizontally!
Actually, I'm more inclined to the latter explanation because of the lights shining at camera. Most people have lights in ceiling.0
