Well - they're honest.
That's got me wondering what British house adverts would be like if they were honest. Hmmm...now wondering if anyone can find one that says anything along the lines of:
- needs electrical work urgently. You'll find out the second you put a lot of things on at once and the lights blow
- nfh living next door (they'll be noisy/try to run your life/etc)
- major building development due on that nice view you're eyeing up
sell or buy in Glastonbury and you would have the option of using an estate agent who does just that.

'Fraid your info is somewhat dated.
Maybe it was the Crash, maybe he just grew up, but the agency is not the source of amusement it once was:

Does anyone else remember Roy Brookes? Long dead now but back in the 1960s his "warts & all" adverts in the Sunday Times were legendary!
For example:
“Wanted: Someone with taste, means and a stomach strong enough to buy this erstwhile house of ill-repute in Pimlico. It is untouched by the 20th century as far as conveniences for even the basic human decencies are concerned. Although it reeks of damp or worse, the plaster is coming off the walls and daylight peeps through a hole in the roof, it is still habitable judging by the bed of rags, fag ends and empty bottles in one corner. Plenty of scope for the socially aspiring to express their decorative taste and get their abode in The Glossy, and nothing to stop them putting Westminster on their notepaper. Comprises 10 rather unpleasant rooms with slimy back yard, £4,650 Freehold. Tarted up, these houses make £15,000.” (Ah, those were the days. Add a couple more 00s now.)0 -
Aw - sounds like the most "honest" we're going to get these days is the odd EA occasionally describing a property as "quirky". Shucks.
I've had my suspicions about the word "quirky" ever since I viewed a property that had been described that way and came out wondering just what particular "religious" inclinations the owner had - and no I don't mean a church....something rather "Black-er" than that was what it felt like there. Unsurprisingly - I didn't buy it/wouldn't have had it as a gift...0 -
Remember looking into boat living in my "very single" days.
The idea never really got off the ground - in moorings, the fees made it far less economically attractive, and free living came down to practicalities like the size of the crap and water tanks, and lacking the convenience of something as mundane as a washing machine.0 -

I was looking at an Irish estate agent's website a few years ago where one property was described as:
'Vaguely house-shaped pile of stones with a few trees growing through it in the middle of a field'0 -

I can't quite work out whether I think that's brilliant, a pile of junk or a 3d surrealist work of art ...0 -

Haha...this thread always makes me smile!
We loved this house. When we enquired, it was on with 2 estate agents. The day I called to arrange a viewing, it came up on RM with a 3rd EA.
The 3rd estate agent was the only one to include the photo of the kitchen-come-garage. You can see a gap at the bottom of the garage too...put me right off.
3 estate agent boards are now outside....screams desperation.

Such a shame as the house is beautiful...0
