No I don't have children but I am well aware of stairgates etc. That gate doesn't look like it fits the bottom of the stairs and has a lock on it and nothing to lock it to....wouldn't be much of a child deterrent if it swings open all the time - it looks too big for the stairs.

Plus it doesn't look like there are any toddlers in the house.

It looks too big for the stairs because of the EA's wacky lenses, there is a bolt on the gate which probably/possibly fits into the newel post.

Might be to stop dogs going upstairs.

But the dogs would already be upstairs if they got to the gate - would be easier just to keep the door to bedroom 2 shut to keep them out

I'm with Deep In Debt - that gate is pointless.
