Indeed - I think I would feel that I am allowed to be more fussy about decor at that price point!

It's not hard to live with dated decor for a while. Look past the cosmetics and all that ... But I could never ever live with that bathroom.

This one seems like ok value for a very large house on a nice road, but it is two 3 bed semi's knocked together - a 3 bed semi on that road (same style) goes for £800k on it's own so they are losing a lot of money on this one I think...

Maybe they were being helpful and pointing out the broken balustrade, or maybe they got a new camera and were trying to work out how to use it?

  • A lot of house for the money here - I particularly like the idea of having my own function room :rotfl:

Agreed, although lack of funds doesn't necessarily have to equate to buying carp! We've often spent so much on the structural stuff when restoring our period houses to their former glory that there's had to be some severe cloth-cutting when it came down to the finishing touches, such as wallpaper, carpets, taps etc.

Rather than buying (relatively) expensive poor quality stuff at the sheds or similar, I choose to shop around for bargains online - I'm not known as the eBay queen in my family for nothing, lol - and have picked up some high end pieces for less than the equivalent cheap carp......including a well known brand of stair runner for £72 - retail price 10 x that ;):p

In the early noughties I once found several rolls of Zoffany wallpaper at my local carboot sale.......for £5 the lot. Our friends weren't too happy - they had bought the same stuff but had paid in excess of £60 per roll at an upmarket interiors shop :D

It's all about taste and being confident to carry off a carefully put together decorating scheme, imo......

There are certainly bargains to be had. I found antique furniture shops a good source for quality furniture at a good price. I still love my Victorian coffee table that cost £18 - I do not think I could find a better one if I tried!

  • I have no idea, but this house is proof that money can't buy taste

even Austin Powers would probably say this was a bit over the top...
