A neighbor at my old house bricked up the front door of his very similar two up two down terraced house for a very similar reason. They were the ones next to the passageway so only used the back door. Made the best use of the space available. The builder did a neat job too, matching the brick and the mortar, but leaving the infilling wall a little recessed externally so that it didn't just look like a patch - rather like a blind window.0 -

Both penfriends' homes, the washing machine and, in one case, a freezer was in the outhouse, which was next to the front door. So could do the washing and not hear it. A friend's penfriend had her washing machine in a cupboard in the hallway.
In the USA and Canada, its common practice to put the washing machine and tumble drier in the basement
My washing machine is in my outhouse (a brick building in the garden). It's just where it's always been.
I find it annoying as it means going outside just to put a wash on. And there have been times when the pipes have frozen and I can't put a wash on.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

I agree, it is a very nice house. I struggled to mow the large lawn in my last house so astroturf sounds quite desirable-and no problem in disposing of the grass clippings.0 -

Not a problem as Mr Potential Buyer can't even get in to view the house he might potentially buy!0 -
The archway in the St Helens bungalow - looks like mirror mosaic tiles when you enlarge to photo.0

.......and what's with the plant-less garden?I can quite understand Contessa saying she likes the idea of astroturf - although it's not to my taste - as mowing a huge lawn can be a pita (our last one used to take me several hours!), but no plants whatsoever in that place seems a bit sad.
Mind you a house near us has just come on the market with not only astroturf, but faux hedging too :eek:Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Agreed. I think barren gardens look awful. Imo it's always possible to at least put a few huge architectural plants in nice pots.
It does take quite a bit of work and money thrown at it to transform a barren garden totally (tell me about it... - as that's what I'm in process of doing). But - that few pots even helps....
Not that that will change the house itself from being a "Mygawd do I HAVE to? Is that all I can afford?:( type house".
But gardens can make quite a difference to a "Mygawd! Must I?" house.0
