BT & Advantis Credit

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Hi all
Firstly I have searched on MSE website already for this issue. I just wanted to clarify one small thing however with clever MSEers if possible.
I received the letter from Advantis stating that their client was BT blah blah blah however there is no mention of a debt just to contact them "in relation to an outstanding business matter" (which I know will probably be a debt which I owed for home phone and paid some years back). I know they are trying it on. Should I still send the "I know nothing of the debt" template type letter even though there is no mention of debt in the letter?
Thanks very much0 -
Just ignore them totally until they come up with a written statement of an alleged debt. DON'T PHONE THEM!!0

Hi Brewerdave
Prepared to help me on the next bit? Advantis contacted me saying I owe BT group some money. I definitely won't phone them. I have sent an email to the BT via the MSE "BT rep"
thanks0 -
Hi rgsoton, I've had the exact same letter dated the 18th of May. I have yet to decide what to do about it...possibly just ignore but no doubt another letter will be on its way already. I think they may have phoned my house as well. Let me know how you get on.......I might try emailing the Bt rep if i can find any of my old bt account details. GAH!0

Hi all,am after some advice from you knowledable people,
Basicially i cancelled my BT phone line and broadband back in march due to me moving house and no longer requireing their services.
This was at the end of my 18mth contract so no early cancelation charges or extra roll on charges...,or so i thought at the time!!
Anyway i get the final bill includes extra two weeks charges and cancellation of direct debit payment be myself.
I rang up to argue these points and refused to pay my bill until they were resolved..,which then incurred a late payment charge on top taking the total bill to £77.08
Anyway it dragged on so i paid the bill under a very vhiament protest email to BT,just to put an end to it.
I then go on holiday for three weeks and come back today to three letters
dated 19th May-Advantis credit i owe BT £77.08 + £19.27 for them
BT Group dated 29th May "sorry for the mix up with your bill and your account is now £42.90 in credit(original final bill £34.18)
Advantis Credit dated 2nd June notifiying me that unless i pay £19.27 to them by 16th june they will send a debt collector to my home or take me to court for it.
What i think is BT after appointing them to recover the "debt" have now been in touch with Advantis to inform them of their mistake but as far as Advantis are concerned they still want their "fee" from me!
sorry for the long winded post, but could anyone advise me on whether to contact them? ignore them as i have done nothing wrong? or even get in touch with BT themselves and basicially tell them to sort it as it was their original "muck-up"
Thanks,Lee.0 -
Take a copy of Advantis' demand for £19.27 and send it to BT with a covering letter asking them to settle the matter. Write to Advantis, advising them that your account with BT was in dispute, and the matter is resolved in your favour and that you have forwarded their correspondence to BT with whom they should deal from now on. Tell tehm that the correspondence is now closed.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
