Thanks for your advice,i will be doing this monday by registered post.
In the meantime i have sent an email to Advantis Credit stating how i find it funny how their second letter has no mention of the £77.08 'owed' to BT and that i am awaiting my cheque for £42.90 due to my version of the bill being the correct version, and that BT should never have willingly 'SOLD' you a disputed bill/debt.and as they were the ones that employed your services recover your £19.27 'costs' from them.
I will see what sort of responce i get after start of buisness monday.
Thanks again,Lee.0 -
Your contract did not end in March, your minimum term did-it then became a 30-day rolling contract. Did you give them them the required 30 days notice for termination? This might account for the original two weeks 'extra' charges, if you only gave two weeks notice? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi there, I am posting to track my situation with Advantis and BT.
I have received an Advantis letter in my name from an address I live at around 3 years ago, the letter mentions BT but no amounts.
I did have a BT line at that address so it is possible I forgot to close the account. I am happy to pay any reasonable debt I owe, but this letter worried me in that why would someone chase me for years over a 'reasonable debt' ?
So I have googled a lot to find out what is going on and read lots of info.
I am going to contact the BT rep on these forums and take it from there.
Thanks0 -
IIRC, 6 years is acceptable.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Hi there, here is a update.
The BT Rep for these forums contacted me and was very helpful. I did in fact owe BT a small amount for the final bill on my previous account.
The Rep advised me to contact Advantis to clear the debt.
I contacted Advantis and paid the debt over the phone, there was a charge naturally.
So in my case I have found no bad practice, and I will say that the phone operator for Advantis was not rude or pushy.
I should think I will have no more dealings with Advantis.
Many thanks to MoneySavingExpert and the BT Rep for helping clear this up without too much worry, I was worried when I received the letter.
I will of course update if I do hear from them again.0 -
Hi, I have posted before and tried emailing BT but have yet to have a reply.
Basically I received a letter from Advantis about something to do with BT and to get in touch with them( i didn't). A little while later i got another letter with an amount for £64ish that I supposedly owed to them, after which i decided to email them a "i have no knowledge, send proof, etc" that i had found on this site.
They have not replied to the email, other than an automated response to confirm they got it, but now i have ANOTHER letter (nice and pink) saying i must pay the debt or else they will send debt collectors or start legal action.
None of these letters have used my full name, only my last name and first initial, and still no account number or any BT details other than a random reference number.
I did have a BT account years ago, then moved from the address that's on this letter, to another taking BT with me but now I am with another provider. (it also means i can't find any old BT docs with my account number on them)
Any replies or help would be appreciated.
I'm in Scotland, if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance0 -

Hi,
Does anyone know if these debt letters are genuine? Whenever I type Advantis Credit into Google it comes up with scam!
It's a letter for my partner for an address he doesn't even live at anymore and Advantis have said that he could be waiting up to a month before they will send any proof of debt. He hasn't heard anything about this so called debt until today and of course now, as a result, his credit rating will be affected which leaves me even more frustrated!
Help please guys!
Thanks

Dont know where you get the idea its a scam ? They are a debt collection agency that works for BT and others.
