I have left halifax who i am claiming fees off.
Because of this i would rather have a cheque than it paid into the account.
Does anyone have any ideas to if i can ask for it as a cheque?
I have today received the refuse claim from first letter response, and am sending the send 'i want it or im taking you to court' letter tomorrow.
Thanks

You can ask, but you aren't automatically entitled.
Is your Halifax account still active and does it have any debts on it?Hamsters have no tact and diplomacy, nor do they want any.0 -

If the account is shut they should send you a cheque anyway - they'd be a bit silly to pay the cash into a dead account.0 -
It is open i think, but ive been told not to use it. my overdraft is £200.00 and its currently £444.00 overdrawn.

If that's the case then Halifax have a right to pay the monies into that account to offset their losses.Hamsters have no tact and diplomacy, nor do they want any.0

I am claiming bank charges from Nat West and have been offered the full amount, however they want to pay it direct into my account. The account is overdrawn and although there will be money left over after the overdraft is paid off I have other priority debts which are more urgent.
Can I ask them to send the money by cheque so I can pay it into my other account with a different bank and use it to pay off my other debts? Or do I have to accept their method of payment?
I don't want to risk the bank changing their minds and not paying me the money back but at the same time in order for me be debt-free faster I would be much better off paying off other debts first.
I have searched the forum for an answer but can't find it so any help or advice would be fantastic.

You can ask but as they have said they will pay it into your account its unlikely that they will now send a cheque.0

I have a dormant bank account with First Direct which has an outstanding debt due to an OD, loan and creditcard that I held with them which I have been paying off through a DMP for the past 4-5 years or so which they accepted happily (they are not my only debtor however) they continue to charge me interest on the outstanding balance. I requested my bank statements from them in order to claim bank charges whilst my account was still in use, which totalled £900. They got back to me promptly with an offer of £750.00 with a declaration to sign, authorising that the amount be applied to my outstanding balance with them; this letter was signed by the customer relations manager. I promptly wrote back asking for the amount as a cheque I have now received a reply from credit services customer relations manager basically saying that I MUST have the money applied to my debt. Is this legal? as these illegal charges are money they owe me, that I have been paying interest on? :mad:0

I am in a very simliar situation
I am intrigued if anyone has some sort of solution to this?
Ive basically sent back my acceptance letter with a footnot stating i will only accept this offer if i am paid by cheque.0 -
If its first direct I'm sure the declaration is void if you make any notes or amendments on it. Not sure what to do next really?????0
