Lose Weight 34

Hello all
I've now been doing the Dukan Diet for 10 weeks, well, it will be 10 weeks tomorrow. I've now lost 4 kg, which is 8 3/4 pounds since the end of July. Not even a stone, but better than I've achieved with any other 'diet' that I've tried over the last 2 or 3 years.
Franby writes:I have decided to give it my all this month as I have been suffering from a bad attack of non-committal, wishy washy faffing around and need to get rid of this weight before it starts to cause me real problems.
I've found that the Dr Dukan system has really dealt with the 'non-committal faffing around' that you describe, that we all have if we're honest. I have to weigh daily and report on the site. I've always preferred weighing daily - every morning after going to the loo and before eating or drinking anything - but others have said 'oh no, only do it once a week'. I need the daily weighing to keep up the daily motivation! And to report whether I've 'lapsed' i.e. eaten anything forbidden. It is very disciplined and I find I need that discipline.
Last year I went to see the nurse practitioner at our surgery - she runs a weight loss clinic - but I didn't agree with much that she said. She talked about 'free foods' i.e. 'you can eat as much as you like of...' and she lumped a whole lot of carbs together, pasta, potatoes, rice, all of them. If I'd eaten what she advocated there would be twice as much of me!!! I haven't eaten a potato in 10 weeks, and nor has DH. Nor have I had a slice of bread or any fruit. This obviously can't continue indefinitely, but then it doesn't have to. This diet is in 4 stages and I'm on the second stage.
With what I learned yesterday there definitely should not be any more 'faffing around'!Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Thank you for the welcome Frodo - off to make plans!
You are right about the carbs on SW - one of my pitfalls has been that self-indulgent extra bowl of noodles or pasta in the evening - it may be free but it's really an extra meal:o
So my '3 meals a day and nothing except fruit after teatime' rule is firmly back in place!
Be careful of bananas. They are extremely high in sugar although they're one of the most convenient snacks!
Dr Dukan forbids 4 fruits: bananas, figs, cherries and grapes. All are extremely high in sugar, spike blood glucose which causes an insulin response, which makes the body hang on to its stored fat.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Just worked it out. Most wholewheat pasta is labelled as 330 cals per 100g as sold. Asda's Wholewheat pasta is 148 cals cooked - it's a bit strange (and possibly sneaky?) for them to label like that when every other supermarket works it out as dry pasta.
You would think that, but if you look at this other ASDA pasta Here then that shows that per 100g cooked, it's 356calories. And if you look at Tesco's pasta Here then you can see that 75g of cooked pasta is 270calories making it 360calories per 100g cooked pasta. Whereas 100g as sold is 355calories. Still pretty confusing though I understand what you mean as water could be part of that weight. But all those stats seem so contradicting.
Still dunno what to make of it.0 -

I'd quite like to swim some of it too, but that depends on how nice my local pool turns out to be. Does it matter if I mix and match a bit?
Yes you can mix and match :jFrodobaggins wrote: »Could I please jog the Channel on the treadmill?Frodo x.
Yes you can :TFred, can you put me in for the 5lb challenge, South Team and once across the channel, is France nice this time of year?

Hey Everyone,
Frodo - Hope you're feeling better today
Franby - Welcome to the thread! :j I know the feeling with the faffing around, I've been like it since July! I'll have a 'good' few days, but seem to lose interest and allow life to take over. I know that dieting is definitely possible when you're really busy, but I seem to use it as an excuse to eat carp! I'm trying to think forward towards Xmas now and use that as my motivation - got to fit into a pretty party dress!!!
Princess - Very confusing! One of them has got to be labelled wrong, they can't possibly be that different cal wise when they are virtually the same thing!
Well I've been pretty terrible dietwise todayI've been sat on my bum working for most of the day - and the only exercise I've had is mowing the lawn (which took about 10 mins!), oh yes, and walking to the chippy for tea
:o:o
Will do better foodwise tomorrow, but have another full day of work ahead of me so won't be very active.0 -
Hi peeps, well I have been really good for 3 days now and the motivation is till here. This is the longest I've ever gone without sweets, crisps and buns. I even resisted a chinese last night, which I usually get even if I'm not hungry just to make OH feel better about getting one.
Today I have another test, we're going to the cinema. I always eat at the cinema but today I will resist, why do we feel the need to graze during a movie?
Exercise wise I've been running a mile every morning, trying to increase my speed and walking the dog 2 miles in the afternoon.
The scales show I have lost 3lbs, but I think in this short time it is probably only water retention. I will get excited on wed to see if the scales still stay the same!LBM 04/10:j

If you can manage to eat normal meals with not too huge portions, and cut out all the sweets, crisps, buns and snacks at the cinema, that in itself will make a huge difference. We never used to be so brainwashed into thinking we had to keep snacking all the time.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Morning all
Well I had a good first day, (controlled ie not carb-crazy) SW green day, 2/3 of an exercise DVD and motivation is still good.
On 21/12/2009 I got down to 12st 1lb and then stupidly, STUPIDLY, let it all pile on again. I would love to get back near that by this Xmas and a good bit of motivation is how good I felt then.
Margaretclare - my mum has medication for high sugar levels but I'm not sure if she is actually diabetic - she's not admitting it anyway! I should probably get tested soon just to check. I am wary of bananas, can't/won't afford cherries and will leave the grapes for the kids!
Hope everybody has a good day.August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.0 -

Apparently there was something on the radio recently which said that the '5 a day' which is so much trumpeted is actually misleading. Originally it was meant to be veg, but the fruit growers in California lobbied to have fruits included. Dr Dukan forbids fruits altogether in the first 2 stages of the diet and in the other 2 stages, any fruit except the 4 mentioned.
I've been misled by other 'diets' which say 'you can have anything, even chocolate and wine, just so long as you include it in your calorie allowance'. Well, that may work for some people, but it has NOT worked for me.
We'll be up in Yorkshire next weekend for the steam weekend on the Wensleydale Railway and hopefully will be meeting my eldest GD for a nice day out. We have a whole lot of stuff from the cupboard to give her, foods that we'll never eat again, but which won't do her any harm because she has the figure of an elf and burns it all off in her very active lifestyle.
I'm even having to watch fat-free organic yogurt because of the added sugar. Just gave away 2 Yeo Valley vanilla. Since going to that Diabetic Awareness Day on Friday I checked the sugar content comparatively between Perle de Lait, Onken, Rachel's and Yeo Valley. They came out in that order: Perle de Lait best, then Onken, and Yeo Valley most sugar per 100g. We'll stick to Perle de Lait and Onken in future.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Although I totally support your efforts I would say advise " A diet is for life not for Christmas" i.e. I would be concerned that if you cut out every food you enjoy you may find it undermines you determination.
I like popcorn at the Cinema, so in the case of a trip now I have a popcorn lunch, I wouldn't do it often but once in a while can not hurt, just factor in a bag (i usually sneak a shop bought one is so I know the calories).
When it comes to takeaway food I share one with DW once a week, I make sure I exercise that day so I have a few extra calories to play with then I pick the best low calorie options from the menu and with that, watching potion sizes and especially with Indian (most Indian restaurants are in fact Bangladeshi) and Fish chips removing excess oil I can keep within my targets.
