I know how that cold feels - never seems to let up for weeks, glad your feeling better now

Thanks Alliwant :) I'm still sniffing away, but do feel a lot better. Had an early night last night... 8.30pm!!!!!! It's usually gone midnight by the time I get to bed so that has really helped.
  • Thanks for the kind words, alliwantistosave.

Yes, this diet does seem to be working well for me. It makes absolute sense, I think that's why I can relate to it so well.

Here's what I was told this morning in my daily motivation tips:

"Margaret, cruising is the period of your slimming programme when you get slimmer. If you follow your instructions properly, the weight loss which you can expect is on average one and a half pounds per week. At the start of the diet you will lose more and then you'll have less successful weeks. For you the essential thing is to hold to your course and to keep going in the same direction, the right direction namely that of your true weight and keeping your true weight, by cutting this elastic band which otherwise will always bring back your lost pounds to their old place.
If it happens that you grow weary of your diet and your physical exercise, if you feel less motivated keep up your guard, it is most likely a trick being played by your interior double. You are well advised to really it understand this double properly if you are trying to lose weight as you'll always find it on your path. Arthur Kessler used to say that when you are lying down on a psychoanalyst's couch, there is not just one but three of you, an instinctive animal, an animal of emotion and pleasure and a rational being which is far, very far from being in control. When you are seeking to lose weight, the first one puts up against its instinct of self-preservation and the second the lost pleasure. If you attempt to win them over, you are lost. They can't hear you because they live in the land of the subconscious and their job is to protect you from yourself. To stand any chance of succeeding, you will have to fight on THEIR territory, which is that of instinct and the conversion of pleasure. Play the self-preservation instinct card and the your health is under threat one. Sexual instinct, seduction which sooner or later leads to reproduction, the instinct of belonging to the group, of conforming. Also play on the element of pleasure, other people, emotional, aesthetic and spiritual nourishment, this costs nothing and doesn't make you put on weight, so try them!"

Yes, I am losing the amount Dr Dukan says above. I've never lost consistently in that way before, not with any other diet that I've tried. I've always stuck around the same point for weeks if not months on end. Weighing daily, reporting my daily weight, and having to admit to any 'lapses' has really been a factor of self-discipline for me.

I'm still in the obese range for BMI, 30.9, but I don't think I'll be there for very much longer. I've been doing this for almost 9 weeks now and in that time I've acquired the confidence that this will actually work for me - I haven't felt that about any other diet before. Counting calories, logging every scrap of food that passed my lips, did not work for me. This is something that I now have the confidence to know that I can do.

    any ideas???
So finally debt free and it feels amazing however continuing here to stay debt free.Next declutter house and body and finally swim under that waterfall x

I'm not too sure that dropping a stone quickly would help you. What is helping me, and keeping the motivation, is seeing the weight decrease in small amounts - a pound to a pound-and-a-half a week. This has never happened before. Everything I've read and heard about says that slower weight loss is better and is more likely to result in permanent loss. I know a woman who is doing the Cambridge diet, but I don't know how she copes with it living in a normal family. At least with Dukan I am able to go and eat out sometimes even if it means making difficult choices and having restaurant staff look at me a bit oddly when I say 'No potatoes, thank you - no chips, no new potatoes, no jacket-baked'. They seem to have difficulty in accepting that a meal does not HAVE to include potatoes in some form or other. We're going to the English Democrats' autumn conference tomorrow and lunch is included - will see what's on offer. As long as there's some kind of meat or fish and some salad or veg, it will be OK.

I tried Alli last year. It does work (you're supposed to lose 33% more weight than you would without it - which is pretty much right from what I can remember), but isn't a quick fix so you don't really lose loads of weight on it... unless you do a drastic diet alongside it. The problem with Alli is the side effects (). They give you a set amount of fat to eat per meal, and if you go over it... well, I'm sure you've heard the stories!
I found that I had really bad stomach cramps when taking the tablets (even though I stuck to the diet) so have given up on them, although if I'm honest, I probably would still be taking them otherwise as they do speed up your weight loss.

thanks lolly and margaret clare, i know its sensible to keep dropping slowly think i'm just annoyed as i had did the slow but sure last year down to 15,7 and then got ill and since then my hormones have been playing up and my craving for chocolate is just ridiculous and i know if i can get rid of that out of my diet that it will come off ,just frustrated me thinks and more bad food days than good will need to get my head round it and go for it new every morning .
